Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6 had a bagle and some predilite. Drove to race site, stood around and chatted with some friends. Stretched a little then started the race
Event warmup:

stretched, ran very little before it was very cold till the sun came out.
Run
  • 1h 53m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I was supposed to use this as a training run, I ran with my friend Steph who is damn fast.... I looked down when we were close to the 1 mile marker and we were in the low 7's, I told here we were going way to fast, so she agreed to slow down. I wanted to do this race as a training run and she was doing it as well (her training time was somewhere under 1:50). She ended up dropping me around 2.5 miles and went on her way.
I had on two shirts and had to take one off during a aide station (hence my 9 something split). Felt good except for mile 9,10 but pushed thru...

This ended up being 85-90% of my race pace... So much for just a easy training run, I let the race get control of me...
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not go out so fast... But other than that it was a great run after all, felt fine after run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked out of stadium then up to the ACME 3 sports tent, got a recovery drink and a beer, hung out and chatted. Left and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing I think I could have went a little faster but was trying to hold back.
Oh I did have to go to the bathroom around mile 9 but there were not enough porta johns on the course.

Event comments:

Was cool to finish on the jumbo tron......
I was happy with my time, all in all a good day.
Well except for my belly hurting really bad afterward....

Nice 'training' run, Chris.  You're damned fast; with your consistency in training, the sky's the limit.

And think this one through...pedialyte, holding it from miles 9-13, recovery drink, beer.  Man, I'm really looking hard for why you might have had an upset stomach after.  Everyone knows you lay the pre-race base with McDonalds.

You "held it" for over 4 miles?  Yowch.  Great run, nice times.  Hard to hold back when everyone else is flying. Yippee!

Great race Chris.  I love it when someone else's "training pace" is my "tongue on the pavement and puking my guts out" pace!  Looks like you are suffering no ill effects from Gasparilla!
