What's it mean when they invite some one to a wedding shower or baby shower and they say REGISTERED at.....(some store)?     Does that mean you only buy gift at the store.....?   Help would be greatly appreciated.

its just that they have selected "what they want" to help you shop. (and once somone buys it, its off the list; no double gifts)

Exactly.   As my wife TOLD me when we went through the headache of setting up a registry, "If we pick stuff we want or will need, we are going to get a bunch of stuff we DON'T want or need."

Just a way to gaurd against YOU getting them CRAP!!  heehee    just playin on that one

When you look at the registry, you can get a sense of the colors and style they intend to use in their new home.  If everything you can afford is already "gone" you can at least find something that will match their tastes.

Yes, gift registration is done to make it easier on everyone, but that does not mean that you can't give them something not on the register, perhaps something more personal, especially if you are very close to the people (hand made baby quilts, art work, etc.).  I admit that I dread baby showers as I don't know what to give, as I am not in the loop of the latest baby stuff.   I often give the mother a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret - they will need to buy new unders after the baby is born!

Not to go all Emily Post, but....

Can I just say that including the registration information IN or ON the invitation takes away from the spririt of the "invite"!   While yes, the assumption is that people will bring gifts, you are inviting someone to a celebration of a life event, not illiciting loot!!  These things are getting very blurred with the information highway life we lead (wedding websites, ect) but if formal invitations are issued, please keep to the spririt of sharing the happiness of the event the people involved.

Yeah, that's pretty tacky.

That said, I'm registered at Target, Home Depot and REI. Feel free to check it out.
