Overcast
Total Time = 1h 28m 26s
Overall Rank = 75/103
Age Group = Novice, female
Age Group Rank = 9/18
Pre-race routine:

Coffee. Protein bar. Coffee. Water. Water. Protein bar. Water. Back rub from husband. Water. Deep breathing.
Event warmup:

200 m swim in murky pool water. Ick.
Swim
  • 09m 41s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I passed four people! The best part about that was that when it started to get bogged down, I didn't even hesitate -- I just pushed through and blasted past people.
What would you do differently?:

A little bit more of a warm up; practice flip turns.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Not too shabby! Felt calm and in control.
What would you do differently?:

A little more powder in shoes.
Bike
  • 44m 8s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Damn proud of this bike. Biking can be very scary to me and I usually do not feel comfortable with turns or eating or drinking on the bike, but I did all of that pretty well during this race. I knocked about 4 minutes off last year's time, although my bike computer said that this was actually only 12 miles....hmmm....
What would you do differently?:

Kick it up a notch. I could have gone harder.
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Forgot to untie my running shoes (really need lace locks, anyhow) and forgot to make sure my socks were right side out! Not prepared enough here...but I was still pretty calm and totally having fun by this point, so whatever!
What would you do differently?:

Think the whole thing through a little better..
Run
  • 31m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m  min/mile
Comments:

There is no way this was actualy 3.1 miles. Maybe 2.5. I do not run 10 minute miles. Especially when I cannot feel my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Push, push, push harder. It's so mental. I know I can do better here. More bricks in my future to practice!
Post race
Warm down:

None! Celebrating with TNTers and BTers!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My brain. I CAN GO FASTER!!!!

The run was 3 miles (I checked it on my bike computer)... not 3.1, but definitely not 2.5 either. You're a faster runner than you think you are, grasshopper! Great race and great race report!

Marti rocks!

Dang girl you beat me by 4 minutes in the pool. Had it not been for my "astonishing " bike and run you would have smoked the "old dude" in this race. Remember old age and treachery win against youthful exuberance every time. Great job and take care.
