I can watch Deal or No Deal for about 15-20 seconds before the urge to punch Mandel in the face becomes so overwhelming that I pass out.

We watched it for 2 minutes until my wife said, "switch that off, it's depressing".

i watched it once, and was amazed at the sheer power of greed that people can have in a situation designed to draw on inner greed. (or as my quote of the week "I just lost my moral compass" - Andrew Fastow)

I love Deal or no deal. I'm working on a mathmatical model that will tell me exactly when to take the deal. The probability aspect of the show is really interesting.

It's groundhog day! Does it really need to be on more than once a week? Hopefully it goes by way of Millionaire... overkill than gone.

Brent was a freak!  I don't think I could work with such a freak.  If I were in that boardroom with him, I'd just let him do the talking and get himself fired (which is kinda what happened).

Amazing Race is on tonight....go hippies!

I lack the motivation to analyze every possibility, but it seems that the banker always offers well below the average of all the remaining amounts. Meaning that from a probability standpoint, it's always better to push your luck (which is of course what the producers want). However then you have to factor in if it changes your life more to have 50,000 vs. much slimmer change of a big payoff.

Deal: It's hilarious to yell at the TV and tell people what idiots they are. The Texas guy last night crying like a baby ..... he had a 60% chance of being well over the $109k that he took. It's a game show! Play to the end and see what happens! Jeez .... Mr. Bucket-o-tears could have walked with a half million ...... idiot.

Apprentice: I thought for sure Trump would keep him around for longer just like he did that idiot last season (the tall Frankenstein guy who was so ADD it was patheitc) because of the ratings. My wife absolutely must watch that show ...... I don't much but did last night. Glad the fat bastard got canned. What a pathetic excuse for human excrement he was.

Wait he "only" won 109k and he was crying because he had half a mil in his case?  My sympathy for him hovers somewhere about the same level as my appreciation for Kevin Federline's music.

No, he was crying before he even took any deal once the offers started getting over $100k. And then when they brought his wife on stage who had never flown before and doesn't travel, so they surprised him.

Hey, when is Apprentice on? I don't even know. I just remember loving it last season. I guess I don't watch enough tv to know when it's on, but I would enjoy getting caught up in the apprentice once more. My favorite show though would have to be the Office!

The mathematical model lies in taking conditional probabilities: the probability of event A intersecting the given event B, divided by the probability of event B

If you apply it to "let's make a deal", you find that if Monty Hall always opened a door for you, switching to the other door yields a 2/3 chance of winning

Only if you assume Monty knows where the car is. If he doesn't, it's simple probablity and your chances are still 1 in 3.

The contestants really get caught up in the greed factor and the audience egging them on.  I think they feel like high rollers and forget their best self interest.  I mean, if someone came up to the average person in the street and offered them a sure six figure sum, say $100,000, or a 2:1 shot at several hundred thousand, don't you think most working blokes like us would take the cash in hand?  Maybe that's just me.

What I would really like to see on that show is for Kramer to come on and take very first offer, no matter how low. Smile
