My tri next weekend may change to a run-bike-run due to bad water conditions.
I have NEVER trained like that before, please, any ideas. They don`t list the distance for the first run but the sprint is supposed to be 500m swim, 20miles bike, 3mile run. What will they do with the run distance?
If you have done this before, what recommendations do you have????

My guess is that the first run will be the same length as the second one, perhaps on the same course. Just treat the whole situation as a training/learning experience. Don't go all out on the first run and you'll be fine.

Your tri has morphed to a duathlon ... first and foremost, enjoy not swimming.

From there remember one of my favorite lines (and best advice) from BT: "Start of slow and then taper down from there."

Judging by your logs, you are well on your way into the base training and working on building your volume. That said, you do not have a lot of volume in your base training yet ... so it is particularly important that you pace yourself below your LT.

I know that it might be a bummer to have your first race altered, but have fun!  This is the beginning of what is going to be a great season.

It will probably be a 3mile run.  Enjoy the fact you aren't swimming.  I hate swimming.  Good luck.

If I've been training for a TRIathlon instead of a DUathlon I would be disappointed, not happy even if swimming is not my strong sport. As others already said probably the run will be anywhere between 2 to 3 miles. I suggest you to do a bit of a test workout by running maybe 1/2 to 1 mile bike 5ish miles and run another 1/2 to 1 mile (plus-minus depending on your fitness level) this will give you a quick idea of what to expect and how to pace for the race... good luck and hopefully the weather allows you to race the Tri!

I'm also signed up for the Lanikai tri I think that if they're forced to eliminate the swim the first run will be closer to 1 mile then 3. Doubling the run distance this late in the game would be unkind at best.

Have you tried checking the website to see if the organizers have any information on how long the run is? That's where I'd start. You could also call them.

The OP stated the distance wasn't listed on the website - and it isn't. I have an email in to the RD and will post the response. They're really hoping for the bay to clear and remain clear through Sunday so we can swim.

The response was that the first run (if necessary) will be about 3.5k.
