Subject: Am I moving too fast??

I need the opinon of some people on my plans here. I have only ran 2 5K's so far, with a few more already scheduled. I also am signed up for a sprint TRI in mid July, and am already looking at another Sprint in October and 5K following (saturday(tri)-sunday(5k). I am still in a training plan for 5K's which is finishing up nicely, and my Sprint TRI training plan will finish in August. Now I am thinking if I survive my double race weekend in October, then maybe change my plans for Gasparilla.

I orginally wanted to just run a 5K to compare to my first race. Now I want to build more base mile in my training this year to be able to run a 5K on saturday and try to finish a 1/2 marathon on Sunday. Now I just started racing this year and am still around 220lbs and dropping slowly. Does anyone think I'm trying to do to much too soon? Should I try what I'm planning and just listen to my body? I am trying to stick with the 10%-20% increase with the proper taper weeks lined up.

I just thought to check the training plans for 1/2 mary's. Oh well I will do that soon. Still looking for your input.

Thanks,
Adam

So you're asking if you can be ready for a half marathon by next February? Ummm, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes . 10 months is a lot of time, you can very easily and gradually build your distance over that time. Go for it.

Edited to add: Check this out - http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm

Ya... that should be no problem. you could be ready for a FULL by next Feb if you wanted to. Lots of people race on sat and again on Sunday just make sure in your head you know which one you are REALLY racing.

For example at Ocean Shores in July I am racing a Sprint Tri on Saturday and a Half Mary on Sunday with the wife. I am training for a HIM right now so the sprint is just a really long mega brick for me and the Half Mary is my "race" In other worst. I wont be going 100% on Saturday I just want to comfortably finish, but on Sunday I am running all out.

Most importantly have fun!

Thanks, I think that I am going to upgrade my membership to Silver. I see there is a 20 week 1/2 Mary Training Program that will fit perfect between my Sprint TRI's and Gasparilla '07.

I've noticed as long as there isn't an injury, training is 90% mental. Since everyone I know says I'm completely mental, then a 1/2 Mary shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Again,
Adam

Definitely- as long as you make sure to follow a proper plan and build slowly to avoid injury.  You'll be surprised at how quickly your body will adapt to the mileage with time.  Good luck with your races!

Thanks for the support, I didn't plan on doing this much in my first season. I just checked my list, and I have (6) 5K's, (1) 10K, (1) 15K, (1) DU, & (4) TRI's planned for 2006.  Everyone was right, this is addictive.
