Pre-race routine:

Coffee and Oatmeal, Hour drive to the race course. Selected everything that morning.
Event warmup:

Easy stretching. Lines to the PortaJohns were Very long, took the dog out to the woods behind the school building and we both relieved ourselves. Quite a few runners were doing the same thing. The dog was full of energy so threw a stick about twenty times to get him burned out. Everybody wanted to pet him.
Made my way to the back of the Walker/Runner pack, which was a compete mix (even though the announcers stated that walkers and slower runners should seed themselves to the back.

Comments:

Went out slow because of the congestion of walker/runners. I thought it was slow, turns out to be 8:33. It was comfortable, so I was content. Tried to set a decent rhythm. Don't race people early, let them go....Amazing to see runners with belts full of bottles (big yellow Amphipod system). Cool morning plus multiple aid stations. What are they thinking. Lot of people are overdressed with full fashion running jackets and pants.
Every so often, I felt simple twinges in the inner hamstring, but was no factor. The long downhill by mile 7 tightened up the thighs some. Over all was shooting for a little over 2 hours, but saw that I was on pace possible for sub 2 hour. Last mile was slowest but, felt strong (kept thinking that the swimming and biking have really helped with the strength factor) Kept pumping the arms and saw that I was catching a few fading runners in the last 200 yards. Heard the announcer say 20 seconds to 2 Hours. Had a strong finish. I hope I still have my face up at the finish line instead of down looking at my watch.
What would you do differently?:

Should have taken a gel with me for the first 4 miles. Didn't take anything gel like till the 8 mile area. Water and gatorade was fine, felt like I coulda hit one of the portajohns on the course, but didn't.
Content with the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered the cool down area and filled up a bag with Nature's Path organic stuff. Ate a bagel and some Peach Flavored Talking Rain water. Slobber kissed the wife and petted the Dog.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Age, weight. Foot was sore but not a factor. Need to incorporate more stretching in training.

Event comments:

This is a very good race. Very scenic. Good crowd support/cheering. Lot of female runners. Would do this again next year if not doing Chuckanut 50.

Best Resting HR was 66, Max was 170 on one of the first climbs and 160 Average. 10K split time was 55:43 and 15K was 1:23. Watch had a 10 second glitch on mile 8 (?) should have been a 8:35 split, but lap click didn't take.
Course: Downhill start, very congested with lots of walkers and first time runners. Some very nice trails around the 2-3 mile mark. Rolling countryside with the final 5 miles going around the coastline of the bay. You can see Coupville across the bay, (close, but still a long ways to go). Some of the road way on curve is really sloped. I'm always looking for the flattest part of the road.
