Subject: speed workouts during taper
Hi. I'm just beginning to taper and was wondering if I should continue doing speed workouts on my shorter distances.
My body is telling me I could probably use the rest. My head is telling me the benefits of speed workouts at this time would be minimal, but my competitive side says that if continueing with speed workouts could shave a little more time then keep doing them.
Any thoughts?

Gus,
How long before your race? The physiological benefit you get from a speed workout doesn't really kick in for about 5-8 days after the workout. So if your race is sooner than that you're probably just going to tire yourself out without much benefit for your race. Hope this helps.
