Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 18s
Overall Rank = 127/1000
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 6/27
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 515. 2 Cups of coffee, powerbar and stretching. re-check tri-pack. head to event. set up in transition area.
Event warmup:

lots of stretching. milled around until 10 minutes to leave transition area then put on wetsuit. complete body stretching again for about 15 min. No pre-race swim or the like.
Did a small pre-race run (warmup)
Swim
  • 10m 57s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, I learned not to start at the front of a swim on your first tri. I literally got pounded. I got swam over, hot, googles knoecked off. You name it, I learned it. Also, I don't like wetsuit swimming. Felt to constrained, to tight around my neck. I don't know what happened, but I had to burp the whole swim. THought I was going to drown. That really sucked.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the middle and to the side.
When at the turn bouy, don't stop to look around(very bad)!
Transition 1
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

T1 was pretty decent for my first. I had practiced the week before so I felt I did O.K. Wetsuit got stuck at ankles, but hell that happens.
What would you do differently?:

May try some body butter or something diff than Body Glide(that stuff is a joke). Going to start to practice biking without socks.
Bike
  • 41m 57s
  • 13.15 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

I did so, so. But this part of the race was my worst. I need to work on using my different gears. I need lot's of practice on the bike. Ton's more for improvement. This was the worst part of the race for me.
What would you do differently?:

Work on gear changes and gear usage. Build up endurance. Work...Work...Work. Put water bottle on aerobars. Did not like having to reach down to get and put back water bottle.

I also pushed to hard on the bike. I went all out....and didn't save much for my run. I really kicked my own a$$.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

This T2 needs work. I really pushed to hard on the bike. I was worn out on transition.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare for transition better at the end of ride. Shoes on before helmut off. Be able to find glasses quicker. Run with a throw away waterbottle. I needed water quicker than reaching the first mile.
Run
  • 27m 56s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Need lot's of work doing bricks. This part kept me from doing as good as I could have done. Didn't get my legs back till around 2.5 miles into run. That comes from stamina.
What would you do differently?:

Train, Train, Train. Brick, Brick, Brick.

I do love my speed laces though, they are a must have.
Will run with a water bottle nest time.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice towel, water. Tried to eat a piece of pizza. Not a good idea for me. Milled around. Should have done some after stretches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, and burning out on the bike (all could be combined) Could have passed some people on the run but damnit I was parched. I felt like I should have done better on the run!

Event comments:

Since this is my first, I don't know if it's good or bad. Race didn't start on time, but that can happen. I thought they did a good job, except my hotel they recommended sucked bad (Holiday Inn Town Lake). Race was good though.

Man you did it!

The mission of the first tri is twofold:

  1. learn how to race a tri
  2. finish

Mission Accomplished.

Congrats!
