just passing this on.....

Subject: Running Guides needed for Blind Kenyan Runner at Boston Marathon next week!!
Date: 11 Apr 2006 07:40:46 -0800

Hello Folks;
I have been asked to see if I can recruit a few runners to guide a blind Kenyan Runner at next weeks Boston Marathon...this is a desperate situation as the guides already committed bailed out at the last minute..

You need to be able to run 37 minute for 10K pace comfortably... 4 people would be ideal...,. They can use 2 or three, that would mean you need to run a 1:20 half marathon comfortably. Please call Joe Q directly at the below contact-telephone call better and Joe can give full details.

Men..Women welcome and feel free to pass this on to one of your fast twitch friends also.

Tell em' I sent you...this way I don't get hit up 98 times for a donation in 2006:>

Not myself, but my husband would be interested... Would the travel from Denver be covered?

I'd happily do it.

Oh wait. I can't run that fast

You might want to try contacting some of the Chicago area college X Country teams.

lilia - i'd say, just give them a call. the phone number is listed in my post. I hope it works out. If you need a place to stay, you're welcome to stay with me. I'm working the finish, but would gladly help out, or work in coordination with the organization to get you where you need to be.

a 37 minute 10K....a 1:20 half marathon, these things dreams are made of.

I passed the note to a friend who can run that pace. He is going to share it with his running club. If you find out that they have everyone they need, please let us know!

I'm tempted to call BS on this thread. Is it really that hard to find four guys that can act as guide and run 6 minute miles for a 10-k?

I would think you'd have qualified runners standing in line to help this person.

Out of curiosity...why not allow the guide to be on a slow moving vehicle of some sort...say a bicycle or a moped? As long as they have something to hold on to(ie. a seat) it would make little difference to them and would be much easier to find someone capable of helping them...

Just curious...

I emailed Joe today, we'll see. I bet they will find somebody closer in the area.. But if not, Richard would do that. His 10K is 37 min, although I am not sure how "comfortable" he was doing that, 1/2 marathon - 1:22, I let Joe know of his times as well

Lilia - if you come, umm...does Richard have a brother you can bring too?

I could use one of him, to keep me going......

Again, let me know if you need a place to stay, or whatever. You can hop into the MA BT session and get to know some of us here.

Jorge - are you working the race, or a 'real' job monday?
