the bear - 2006-04-26 5:24 AM You guys notice that there are fewer Softrides out there? Is it just me? They look friggin sweet and I'd really like to try one, but nobody around here carries them.

I heard at my LBS that Softride recently declared bankruptcy.

After I bought my bike I heard that Softride was difficult to work with from a dealers perspective. Last year they sold a cheap beam mountain bike at Costco and where I bought my bike said ah...that will be the end of them.

They seem to have gotten progressively worse over the last few years.  One dealer I talked to said they started out great with support and warantee replacements and the like, and then gradually they went downhill to the point that he (and many dealers I imagine) began dropping them because it began having a negative effect on their own customers.

I'd be curious to hear the story behind it (change in leadership?  management?  owner?).

I just want to point out that you are very lucky to have such a great LBS to work with.  Appreciate them and take full advantage of it.  That is great how they are treating you.  Obviously they want a sale, but it sounds like they are willing to work for it which, as a customer, is all you could ask for.

I lost a bunch of weight really fast last year because of my jaw issues, and despite heavy training, I know I lost power. I'm guessing your weight loss wasn't soley from diet (like mine was). I know I lost muscle mass.

I noticed that in your pictures, but I figured you were just wimpy, uh, muscularly challenged

oneword - 2006-04-27 3:23 PM Of course the weight difference will help, but in almost any bike, the best upgrade is lighter MORE AERODYNAMIC wheels, in terms of cost-effectiveness.

I think aerobars would have a greater impact in terms of cost effectiveness.

I'm down 26 since the first of the year. I would defy you to detect a loss of power here, especially relative to the weight (i.e. strength-to-weight ratio)

Likewise, I've lost 40 pounds and I'm much stronger now than I was then. Weight loss on its own doesn't mean a loss in power, how the weight is lost does.

oops, 40 since I started, I wish it was since the first of the year. You must be pretty skinny bear.
