Has anyone done both of these?  They are on the same day and I am trying to decide which one to do.

Lake Logan is great and I will definitely be back.  I did the Oly there in 2010 but it did not fit into my schedule this year.

I have not done Stumpy Creek.

Where did you stay?  I am probably going to camp somewhere.  Maybe on the grounds.

We did it as the first part of a family vacation (my husband is a whitewater kayaker) and we rented a place in Dillsboro.  The onsite places looked nice from the outside.

Did both last year.  Lake Logan by a landslide.  We stayed at the Best Western in Waynesville.  Go early and do some easy hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway at 5000ft!

Downtown Waynesville is actually pretty darn cool for it's size.  There was lots to do, places to eat, and some pubs to grab a brew.  We will be back this year if our summer schedule doesn't fall apart.  I really didn't like Stumpy creek other than the fact we got lucky and had a pretty cool day for July.  Unfortunately the water was still 89 degrees and the run is a two loop hilly blah.

No contest>>>>Lake Logan.  Both are well run races but you can't beat the setting for Logan and Waynesville is a great town!!

If you are going to camp, try to use the camp ground at Mt Pisgah: http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=75021

You can drive off of the parkway on Hwy 215(Lake Logan Rd) straight to Lake Logan.  The run is on Hwy 215.  Or it is probably a little shorter to take Hwy 276 and turn left on Love Joy Rd which turns into Lake Logan Rd.

I did logan this year and will be back.  great venue, great course.  I'm going to pull some string and crash around the corner at the scout camp this year--the 45 minutes from my parents house that early was rough.
