July was not great here.  I had to scale back one week because of a work emergency and the next week was "tapering" a little bit for my 70.3 validating race.

July's totals:
Bike:18h 03m 05s  - 301.83 Mi
Run:8h 37m 37s  - 36.7 Mi
Swim:13h 34m 54s

Speaking of, I submitted by validation to lottery@ironman and [email protected] back on July 11.  I got the auto-confirmation that day but never heard back, then two weeks later the "How would you rate the support?" email to which I replied "I never heard back".  I still had not heard back, so I emailed them again last week, August 1... and still no confirmation that they received my validation.

Did it take that long for you guys to hear back?  Were there any other questions you've asked of them that went without a response?  Or maybe there's another email address I should be sending it to?  Just getting a bit worried here, with the August 30 cut-off...

No, at most it took a week to hear back...that's weird...I'd write again or check your spam filter?

Just under 8 weeks out!!!  How is everyone's training going?  I was doing great before a 9 day trip to China and now a slight metatarsal issue!!!  Still swimming and biking but I am trying to lay off running to see if this thing will go away!!!

Training would be going great if David Morris and I didn't try to kill each other last weekend on our long ride.  We finished 112 miles in just about 5:04 and then went on to 115.  Jumped off the bike and ran 8 miles at a nice even pace.  Ah 6+ hour training days.  Just what I always wanted to do....

8 weeks to go=time to do the serious work!

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, or at least makes it so you crush lots of pizza at the pool later!

Doing OK here.  A silver lining in getting laid off July 3 is that I'm flexible for training right now.  It's a blessing I'm not taking lightly.  I've only had to wake before 6am to train once.  More specifically, I've been saving my bikes and runs for mid-day when it's hottest... trying to prepare for the Kona heat.

Eddy- I've battled metatarsalgia and/or stress fractures since my first IM.  If you want/need help or my learnings, feel free to message me.  It's a b&tch of an injury.  I'm hurting these days, but pushing through it.

Keep it going y'all!  One of my favorite Kona videos if you haven't seen it:

Tell me that doesn't bring a tear to your eye!

Kevin,

ANY advise you can give on metatarsal injuries would be greatly appreciated!!!  I have not run at all this week and I really need to get back on my feet.  Biking is going ok and my swim is what it is, but my run needs some work in the next 6 weeks!!

How is everyone doing??  We are getting close!!!   My training is starting to get better, still have a few more big weeks before I start to taper.  I officially do a 2 week taper but I will start to back off after next week.  All I need now is to get my Xterra speed suit that is on backorder before I leave for Hawaii!!!

Less than five weeks until race day!  I'm hanging in there well, even though it was difficult to build up to Coeur d'Alene (where I qualified), rest for a couple of weeks, and immediately start building back up.  I'm nursing a stubborn injury that I'll only be able to let heal after Kona.  My mental state is good, though--better than it was a month out from CdA, in fact.

Last big push here in the next few weeks!

Okay, I have to tell someone...so I'm posting on BT.  I am sick to my stomach right now.

I'm military and a big exercise popped up a few weeks ago...for 13-17 October.  And right now work is actually saying that they might not let me take leave!

I will be devastated.   I've already invested so much money..not to MENTION that this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.   I'm so nervous, I wish they would just decide already....

My training is going fine...of course that doesn't matter if I don't get to go.

Oh Jen!  My heart just sank for you.    Hopefully, surely folks will see this is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Since the Navy has been a Kona sponsor for years, there have been close ties to the military...

At the end of the day, what you're doing in uniform is more important than what any of us pedestrians will do in our TRI uniforms, whether it be in Hawaii or not.  So I'm proud of you (as a complete stranger) for serving and keep us safe.

Keep training and keep that head up, as if you'll be there with us when the gun goes off.

Here's a prayer that it all works out.

Thanks, Kevin.  They've been stringing me along since Thursday.  Part of me wonders how they could ever say no...but yet I know they can.

Good news!  The commander just stopped by my office and told me I can take my leave!

SO relieved...this has been such an awful week NOT KNOWING.  I began to suspect the problem last Tues/Weds when I first heard about the exercise...and it wasn't until Thursday that I got to ask anyone about it.    I've just been terrified since then that they would actually say no!

HUGE HUGE relief...I can feel excited again!

Yay!  Kona! :D

The pool is not my problem. :D  I'll be out of the water early (though, I suspect my placement won't be as high at Kona as other Ironmans...I mean, 3/4 of the field at Kona is faster than your average Ironman, right?).

After that it becomes a pass Jen party!

Great News Jen!!!

I am sure that is a huge weight lifted so you can now relax and just focus on the last few weeks of training and enjoy the race!!!!  See you in Hawaii!!

For those of you who have been to Ironman Hawaii before, would you recommend going to the awards banquet on Sunday?  I have 3 kids and my wife with me and we are either going to do that or go to a luau Sunday night.  The kids are ages 3, 7 and 10.

Jen, so glad that it worked out for you!

From what my friends tell me, at Kona, if you are around an hour swimmer it is crowded and stays crowded the whole way, not like another IM where an hour puts you in cleaner water at the FOP.

I expect to come in around 1:10-1:15...I've done 1:09 and 1:12 but those are both with wetsuits.  So, I guess I won't be top 25% like I'm used to...probably more like to be 50-75%....
