aaprimo10 - 2011-11-20 7:59 PM The price is a little higher because you will receive a custom Sugoi tri top for signing up for the race instead of a tshirt.

As a RD have you ever thought of having the option of giving racers the option of not getting a shirt and having a reduced entry fee for those people. (not just in this case were you are giving a sugoi tri top, but all races where t-shirts are given)

I could see that leading to supply issues...meaning not knowing how many shirts to order for the race where as a set price enables the ability to estimate participant entries

I too thought they were odd distances that were bike heavy. Looked great as a training tool but I don't know if I would opt to race.  Although all year when I was IM training I wanted a race that was long swim and bike and short run.......so I guess be careful what you ask for.

Not being a powerful runner I've always complained that triathlons are still to the advantage of runners.  Maybe a race like this levels the playing field more for swimmers/bikers.

FWIW, I would not have selected this event last year when I actually did Washington Half as my A race, but I'd say that's mostly due to the timing for me personally. In general, I see no reason this race can't be an A race for people on its own. We are not all Ironmen.

...Did I promise my wife no Half or Full next year, or did I say nothing longer than an Oly? Innocent

Looks like I'll get to find out...I won an entry to the IOS100 at the Christmas Party last week.

What is this "swim" you speak of? Cry

I haven't heard anyone mention these races in a while so I thought I'd bring it up again.  It seems there are 36 people registered for the Saturday races.  That's reminiscent of the Washington Half this past October where only 90+ people were signed up ( even fewer raced ).  As much as I enjoyed that race, I believe the shortage of competitors caused FS to have to cut back on some services (photos and post race food for example)

Something occurred to me this weekend while in Florida, these races are in mid May in NC, It will most likely be HOT.  The Venue, the distances, the race organizers, I love them all but I'm having second thoughts.

My 20-week plan is aimed specifically at this race.  I will race it whether there is pizza at the end or not...   I've raced at White Lake, hot doesn't bother me.

I will be there with bells on. Heast is common and will be better than August or even late July!

Stacey and I are considering the 100 miler as a relay.  For me, it will be prep for Louisville in August.  Hot is not gonna deter me.

I'm planning on being there but haven't signed up yet.  Using it as a long brick day in prep for IMCdA.  I'm also signed up for Assault on Mt. Mitchell 2 days later, which I may regret!

I would not consider Mid-May to be hot.  Visit in August

I'm still planning on doing this, but I haven't signed up yet.  Looks like there's only 44 signed up for the 50 and 28 for the 100.  Anyone else in?  Would FS cancel if the number of participants don't improve significantly before race day?  Only a month out, would have thought more people would have signed up by now.

I am signed up for the 100. More will sign up, but I doubt they will double in numbers from where they are now. FS will not cancel this. It is the first time for this event and the distances are new. So it will take taime to build these events.

That's what I was thinking but hope we are both correct.  Could get awfully lonely out there on the bike course!

They recently added an Aquabike category, so hopefully that will help boost the numbers.  I'm still considering it as a Relay.

Great points but everyone and I agree they are away from the standard norms!  We looked at Epic Man as the ideal to try and create something different!

It seems that everyone is doing HIM or IM so we thought it would be good training for summer HIM and IM!

You probably know that the distances add up to 100 miles and 50 miles that is why it has the names!

Natty Greene's will also be providing beer so you can drink yourself away!

I am very excited for this race to happen!  I have never been to Washington, and through FS Series staging this race (and others in the Du series), I get to visit parts of my home state I've never seen!  My family is making a weekend of it; I'm going down on Friday with a friend who's racing the 50, and my parents are taking their motor home to a nearby campground.  My wife and kids are coming down Saturday morning, and we're all staying through until Sunday, when I'll be back on-course to either volunteer or cheer on the sprinters.  Very much looking forward to race weekend!

You will truely love Washington!  It has a nice downtown with some great restaurants.  You can also trek down to Bath.  Beautiful country!
