Subject: Half Ironman SIlver Plans

Any advice regarding the merits of the two Half Ironman Silver Plans? I am talking about the 20 Week plan and 16 Week Intermediate plan. I have previously used the Free 20 Week plan but am looking to use something a bit more advanced for next year.

I had thought the 16 Week Intermdediate plan would be a good option but now that I am looking at the plans it looks like the 20 Week plan has more hours and is probably a bit tougher. Also the 16 week plan for some weeks only has two runs which I think is a bit strange.

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I used the 20 week plan for my first HIM (which was 3 weeks ago). I liked the bike and swim volume, but thought the run volume was a little light for me. Of course, for the past 3 years I've done marathon run volume, so I might be a bit skewed. Overall, I thought the plan prepared me well for the race.

I did the 12 week Olympic to Half Iron bridge plan and I loved it.

I added a little bit of time to some of the long rides to make sure I hit race distance, but that was it.

I had good luck with the 16week plan. I wish I would have used my traininer more to get the intervals consistent, but overall it worked for me. Depending on your background it will get you to the race more than ready.
