On another note, IMO, covering old guys wrecking is stupid.

I couldn't disagree more.  I watch these guys at twice my age, struggling, going down, getting back up and refusing to quit for no other reason than to complete their race - they're not in it for anything else except themselves.  Made me stop and think about my lack of motivation lately and the fact I've been shrugging off workouts for no other reason than "I'm tierd".

If those 80 year old's can HTFU, then so can I.

Eh.....it's the old ones who finish strong that inspire me...and there were plenty of those to choose from if NBC had wanted to.  I thought both of the gentlemen they showed needed to be stopped and given medical treatment, not shown suffering for some dramatic TV effect.

I enjoy watching the athletes whose day comes together and they are able to finish strong - but "I" also find inspiration in those whose day is falling apart, but they keep going.  I just saw no reason for you to call coverage of their effort stupid.  I think most triathletes would look at Julie Moss and call her finish epic, gutsy, whatever (these guys are no different) - you just chose a different adjective.

My calling it stupid was in reference to the airring of it.  I agree with whatever term you want to use for their effort.  I actually found 2 people I work with who saw the coverage and have no idea about triathlon other then what they saw....both thought the old guys collapsing near the end of the race was ridiculous.  I realize that nobody really cares about triathlon except us and our families...but still, I think having collapsing people who are probably closer to death then fitness is not a face I think we should want for our sport.  Where were the pictures of older people whooping and hollering with joy when they finished??.....THAT inspires people.
