I've joined an all-girls team for the Tough Mudder in May 2012. Anyone else here participated in a Tough Mudder? I like that it's not a race, but a challenge where the spirit of the event is no man left behind. I'd love to hear other people's experiences with the Tough Mudder.

I did Tough Mudder Mt. Snow this year.  It was a lot of fun and didn't fail to meet my expectations.  The obstacles weren't as hard as I anticipated from a strength perspective, but what made the event brutal was the hills and the water obstacles.  The very first obstacle is a 1.5 mile charge straight up a double black diamond ski trail.  It. Never. Ends.  The majority of the hills came in the first half of the course, so it was a long stretch of unforgiving steep grades.  Pretty easy to stay warm, even though it was freezing.  The majority of the obstacles were back loaded in the course where there were less hills.  So it was much harder to stay warm because there wasn't as much running and the water obstacles were BRUTAL.  They had mylar blankets at every water obstacle, but you reached a point where you could not warm up.  It was hard, but it was a ton of fun and my friends and I ended with huge smiles on our faces.  Just go out and have fun.

Thanks for the input. I have a feeling I am grossly underestimating exactly how freakin' cold that water is going to be...

There were signs that posted the water temp at 35.  Because of this, they also had signs telling you it was okay to skip them.  Most people didn't.

Based on the current weather it will be a lot warmer this year. I did Tough Mudder Colorado and the altitude hurt me. Expect lots of hills, still really cold water, electricity and mud.

In prior events they just hung wires and you ran as fast as you could through them. They now add a row of hay bails which when I got shocked I tripped and gouged my knee when I fell. It seemed that smaller people were affected less, not sure why. The shock is quick though so no worries. The cold water swim is probably the toughest part. don't wait around and just get through it.
