Subject: Survey on PEDs
Hi BTers. I am doing some research for an article to be published in Triathlete Magazine on the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) by age group triathletes. I have constructed a completely anonymous and confidential survey that I am hoping people might complete so that I can get a sense of the prevalence of this issue and get a feel for the attitudes towards PED use and testing in the triathlon community.

The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete and may be found here:
http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22E349FUDJU

If you choose to complete it, please do so as honestly as possible!

I thank you in advance for your consideration.

Cheers

Dunno if albuterol is legal or not but I answered as if it is not an illegal substance.  I take albuterol during asthma attacks (took 4 puffs tonight) and preexercise also.

... Aw . question 6 shows it is illegal.  Well, I took the survery in the spirit not the letter.  So I answered that I don't take PEDs even though I apparently do.

Kathy,

As a professional athlete it is on the list but many professional athletes do use inhalers.  IRRC, As long as you have it pre-cleared you are ok.

Down here you don't need prescription.  As a matter of fact, while grocery shopping at Soriana (while on Coz for hte IM) I noticed they had it for $10MN each and I picked up 2 more (expire next December).  That is about $0.80USD each.

Btw.... Albuterol used to be and may still be the loophole for inhalants..... I remember reading a study or book that the excuses for use went up exponentially when the IOC allowed the use with medical excuse. So I am sure some need it but it sets up a condition for abuse .

It is always unfortunate when people abuse the system but I read something like 50% of all the Olympic Swimmers at Beijing suffered from Asthma.   You will often see pro triathletes with an inhaler under the suit just in case they get into trouble.
