I know it is too early to compare a day like today to Sunday by I think it would sooth minds to know I just drove across lake ponchatrain and there was not a ripple in the water. Smooth as a baby's bottom!

Current winds are about one-fifth of what is forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Damn that RD for not having the race today!

Just cancelled my hotel and my two days vacation......I had to put myself out of misery! I then turned around and signed up for 70.3 Muncie.........then remembered we are running peachtree 10k 2 days before.....wife reminded me after the fact.....its going to be a long week for our family!

to Atlrnr......I am sure that you and otheres that have completed a HIM arent as upset as someone like me who has yet to complete one....puts months of training in to complete one....just to have it lessened or cancelled by weather. I consider spending 250$ and travel fees for a glorified duathlon a waste of money....thats all I was saying.

Well, I'm in regardless...just bummed, with a foot injury I was hoping for a good swim and bike to make up for the walking I will have to do on the run. If they make it a run-bike-run I probably wont make the time cut off - uhg! Oh well, just wait till race day is all we can do.

No matter what I am in. Hotel is pre-paid and non-refundable, my mother in law is here from CA to help hubby take care of the kids while I am gone, my best friend took time off work to sherpa me for the race, so with all this, it would be kinda rude to back out.

I am also registered for Muncie 70.3 and Augusta 70.3, so if this race is funky I still have 2 more chances.

Funny thing is, I was planning on Orlando 70.3, I made a last minute decision when I had the $$ to do this race instead of Orlando....

Yay! I will see you at Muncie then! I will be the guy that fits the "one of these things doesn't belong" theme.......

I so wanted to do Augusta, but I got into the NYC Marathon and have deferred 2 times and this is my last chance.....sooooooo.....Muncie it is.

Keep us posted on what goes on down in NOLA this weekend....you can be our site correspondent for those of us who bailed.

Good luck..........btw......is every hotel in muncie booked or what?????

I did Muncie last year as my first HIM, great race! Loved it so much I wanted to do it again. All the hotels in Muncie are booked, there are not that many. You can try to book in Anderson 20 minutes away. My best friend who lives with me here is GA is from Muncie so we just stay with her parents. It small town midwest, nothing to do, but we have a great time post race at Buffalo Wild Wings!

I vote for an all out Hunger Games-style 1.2 mile run to our bikes, then the 56 mile bike followed by the 13.1 mile run. At least our medals would still be accurate.

I'm in- regardless. But, my sanity is always to be questioned. Driving down tomorrow.

I got a promising email from a meteorologist that has hourly weather details for Sunday.  The winds are 11 mph all through Saturday night until 8am when it increases to 13 mph.  It then picks up to 19 mph by 11 am.  I'm hoping that there is a window to set the buoys and get our swim in before the wind picks up too much. See chart below, not sure if this will post correctly..  I'll get another update tomorrow mid-day and post it again.

I forwarded it to the race director as well. Although, I assume he would have access to the best weather reporting...but then we assumed there would be a solid back-up plan.

Latest weather says 77 and winds at 10mph!  Promising.  Either way played golf today and am concentrating on running the packet pickup for a local 5k (LA Skeeter Run) so whatever happens I will deal with it on Saturday.

Later all!

no. just very familiar with the course. north wind is a big problem for the south shore swim. I would like to see this race succeed year after year and am aware that no swimming is a problem and have given and discussed solutions for success with some of the parties involved.no agenda here.

Just read the update on the event website. I don't understand making the bike course short because of debris, isn't that what push brooms are for? I will volunteer before the race to help clean up debris if I have to............

Gotta love how patronizing WTC thinks they can be - "Race management has moved the event to a double loop run course that brings athletes on every lap back towards the finish line area, so friends and family members can cheer you on during this section of the run.".........so they make it sound like amid all the other things they have to schedule around, they also wanted to make sure you could get cheered on more often.  How dumb do they think we are?  They should just say that they had to change the run course as well.

The wind forecast is actually getting worse and not better.  I'm most likely bailing out.  I'll wait a few hours to make a final decision but a forecast getting worse the closer we actually get to the race is not a good thing.

Here's the latest National Weather Service advisory: http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=LAZ062&warnc...

This race is getting absolutely ridiculous. I'm understanding the swim modification or cancelling, but shortening the bike by 4 miles.  Why not kill the run split too and make it an 11 mile run or something.
