Let's get this thread going!

The 20 week plan kicks off in two weeks. I just got myself signed up before the price increase takes effect. This will be the third year in a row for me.

My how time flies ......  I don't have a plan!  I'm too random of a trainer.  But I want to go sub 5:15, maybe I need a plan.  Ride the crap out of the bike, run lots, mostly easy sometimes hard and swim like a fish.  Is that a plan?  I still have to clean up my basement to set up my trainer.  Plan or no plan, this is going to be fun.

Advice?  Well, I've only done one 70.3 but I can say that you can't have too much saddle time in preparation for this race as well as having your run in check.  Having a race day nutrition plan is major also as I did not and I bonked on that run last year.  If the swim is anything like last years I'd recommend becoming an open water ANIMAL in preparation.

That's the hope!

My 70.3 PR was at this race, the only year I successfully trained for and completed a marathon that winter/spring. Really think a SOLID run base through the winter is key for me.

Now that this thread is finally started I'll sign up Did this race in 2009, loved it. Best 70.3 I"ve done to date. Loved the venue.

One question, what is the deal with campground reservations this year? The IM-Kansas website is very confusing.

If it's similar to last year, and according to the ironmankansas website it appears to be, the campground reservations are made through Clinton State Park starting March 14.

That is part of my confusion, the website sams Monday 3/14. I believe 3/14 is a Wednesday this year. It's possible that may be carry over info from last year.

So camping is definitely the way to go?  I thought it would be cool to camp out the night before, and run by the tent during the race.

Anybody recommend camping?  Or commute/hotel?

I think camping is definitely the way to go! Personally I sleep the same the night before a race whether I'm in a hotel or a tent. You can't beat the location (don't have to worry about bottlenecked traffic in the morning/parking) or the price! Also makes a good "home base" for your cheering squad as the run goes through the campgrounds.

 It's really a cool experience.

Hi guys, some of you look familiar(Mark and Jon). Yeah, camping is definitely the way to go. Where else can you have a whole campground full of triathletes? The traffic looks horrible too getting in race morning. Skipped KS last year because of IM Coeur d'Alene, but will be back this year to hopefully PR. Having my kids at the campsite when I came by (twice) was very motivating for me, and they get an idea of when you're going to cross the finish line. Don't forget, they're having an IronKids race the day before just like last year, so there will be some extra traffic.

Roger.

Probably. The participant list still hasn't changed from last year, so obviously things haven't been updated. Either way, I'm sure they'll get the info out to us when the time comes.

By chance, has anyone heard if and when there maybe a training weekend?  I did the one two years ago and loved it (except for my buddy wrecking his bike).  My wife and I are planning on a relay team for this year, but would enjoy riding the course with a couple hundred athletes again.

We may not get a couple hundred athletes, but there has already been talk between quite a few folks from the Area getting a few rides/runs in on the course prior to June. We will certainly post it on here when we do.

Roger.

I drove in from the Kansas City area race morning last year, traffic wasn't a big deal.  Can't go wrong setting up camp though.  I thinking about bringing the kids this year.

Well last year someone set it up independently and then backed out the week-of, so everyone was just on their own. I'd imagine in the month beforehand there will be lots of company on the course... just need to have enough room on you for plenty of water since I wouldn't count on a water stop this time.

In the past the practice weekend has been 2 weeks before (or Memorial Day weekend) - I bet there will be a big group again that weekend. Just watch out for angry drivers pulling boats to the lake. They don't like cyclists on "their" roads

Finally got my wife and I registered last night for IMKS! Nothing like waiting til the last minute, it's just hard for me to let go of that much cash. It will be a busy week end as our two kids will be racing in the IronKids event too. Both qualified for national last year. Will be camping too. Hopefully Chrissie will come back to defend.

Yeah, I saw that this morning. It is too bad, but I'm happy for Chrissie. Maybe she'll have a baby or something and come back stronger next year.

She tweeted yesterday or today that she is NOT having a baby.  She did mention work with charities etc. so maybe she'll be in Lawrence for another Blazeman Foundation Dinner.
