Subject: Cervelo Bike Fit - P2 / P3

Hi,

I need so advice with regards to bike fit for Cervelo's.

I know I will need a proper bike fit, but I am running out of time on the "Share the Ride" deal and was just after some "general" advice with regards to bike fit.

I am approx 6'2" and have a 33" inseam - age 44, fairly flexible.

I was looking at either a 58cm P2 or P3, however I am finding it hard to secure a 58cm, do you think that a 61 (either P2 or P3) could fit if a shorter stem was used?

Looking at the geometry

P2 58       Stack 550       Reach 440

P2 61       Stack 577       Reach 447

P3 58       Stack 535       Reach 445

P3 61       Stack 564       Reach 454

So the difference in stack and reach between a P2 58 and a P3 61 is 14mm....and being pretty ignorant on these matters is this much and can this be accomodated, someone suggested a shorter stem .

As you can tell, my bike geometry knowledge is super poor and I'd appreciate some help in seeing is its viable as I cant get hold of a 58cm as part of the deal but dont want to lose the benefits of the tri bike.

Help!

I asked the same question a different way to my fit guy... I fit pretty darn well on a P2, but the minimal price difference was intriguing enough to look at the P3. He said in no way would he recommend a P3 for me, his exact words were "the position is too aggressive for you, too aggressive even for some pros". Dunno if that helps or not.

I'm 5'11" and 33.5" inseam. I ride a 54cm P2 and I fit perfectly on my bike (I've done 200km+ rides on it without any fit problems)

The shorter stem might solve your reach issue. Based on your inseam you have a longer torso to legs ratio so I'd be worried about the stack. You'd have to really lower your seat post (hopefully not need to cut it down), and with the taller headtube (190mm for 61cm vs. 160mm for 58cm) you might end up in a rather non-aero position.

The rule of thumb with the fitters I know is its better to have a too small frame and add spacers / stem than to have a frame too big and to be stretched out.

I would definitely keep looking for a 58 (have you tried 56cm for comparison?)...  A P3 might work because of the shorter (175mm on 61cm) headtube.... big maybe....

Thanks for the replies.

I can get a 58cm but not as part of the deal (as it would arrive after 31st Jan), so to pay $1000 more really hurts!

I just assumed that the 56cm would be too small......I ride a 58cm Cervelo S1....would the tri bike size usually be the same as for a road bike or larger/smaller?

I can get a 56cm or a 61cm as part of the deal, what do most people ride being my height?

I'm between 6'1" and 6'2", I want the best fit to make the most of the aero position, but not crazy agrressive.

Thanks again

I would at least try the 56cm frame.  It might fit perfectly but if its a touch too cramped you could put on a 120mm stem and have a fairly aggressive (long and low) TT bike setup.

I rode a 56cm Fuji roadbike before getting my 54cm Cervelo P2 - some road cyclists go down a size on a tri bike. Its very individual. And you probably know the frame sizing nomenclature can be pretty meaningless between brands.

i'm 6'3 and I ride a 56cm road and a Large tri bike. 56-58 tri bike. if you go with the 61. chances are it will be too long and aggrressive. no comfort. I would go with the smaller one. and if it doesn't fit after a while. you can always sell it alot easier than a 61. plus you can alway play with stems to make it longer. you can't shorten a 61

I'm 6'2" and ride a size 58 P2 without any issues. That being said, my S2 that comes in Tuesday is a size 61 since for my road bike the numbers work that I would fit better on that frame than the 58 frame I assumed that I would be.

I would think your dealer can get a P2 in 58 if you ordered it soon. It's taken about ten days to get my S2. And that's assuming Cervelo has a 58 in stock.

Good Luck,
Shane

I'm between 6'0 and 6'1 and I ride a 54 P3 and a 56 Soloist.  When I bought the P3 I knew the stack was a touch short - I cannot imagine trying to ride a 61!

Random -- did you ask your bike shop if they would still honor the deal if the bike arrives after Jan. 31? I test rode both a 51 P2 and a 54 P3. They both fit, but I preferred the price tag of the P2 -- but the one P2 in my size they had was already promised away. When it was clear I was going to walk instead of taking the P3, the shop brought out the manager and he agreed to give me the deal on the P2 even though it probably won't arrive until mid-February.

Worth a shot?

Thanks for all of the replies, it is really very much appreciated.

I asked at the bike shop about order times, and Cervelo dont have any P2 or P3 58 Ultegra's avaiable in stock to send out, if they order now they wont arrive until Mid/End Feb and they say Cervelo wont honor the deal.

I will look at the 56 P2 and P3 as I think they have them available, sounds like people my height are riding them, so its worth a shot...

Thanks again

I have a 54 s1 and a 51 p2. I feel great on both so if you ride a 58 road bike I would try a 56
