Pre-race routine:

Got up @ 0400 after working till 2300 the night before. I think I got to bed around 0001 in the morning so I had no sleep. Had a bowl of vector and some cheerios to start the day. Then I waited for my friend to come and pick me up. Got picked up aroun 444 and was off to the major metropolis of Vancouver. We found parking pretty quickly. It was great to be so close to the start. We then headed in to BC place and checked in our gear at the gear check. @ 0630 I ate a Power bar and drank a couple more glasses of water. Then We waited in the lines for the bathroom.
Event warmup:

Just a few stretches to get out the kinks and then we found the 4:15 Pace bunny.

Comments:

I did this race with my friend. We decided that we would try and beat Oprah and P Diddy. As you can see with our half times we were on pace for a 4:14 race as the Half for us was 2 mins fast. 3:14 @ 20miles and we were ready for a 1 hour 10k. It was going great, then my friend started to have this pain in his knee. We walked most of the last 10k and finished it off with a 1:20 or so 10k. OUCH. He was great though, I kept him moving, he realy wanted me to keep going and get my time but I told him we started together and we will finish together. I pushed him to walk the course a bit faster, I said dont ruin this by walking slow. So I picked him up and we ran every once in awhile to get better and then walk then run. We finished strong! I was so proud. We saluted the crowd and got our medals.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe when we line up with the 4:15 Pace Bunny, stay with the bunny when they walk.
Post race
Warm down:

We walked to BC Place Kept moving got our gear and finishing shirt. Then to the food court. Got a ton of food and water and juice and doughnuts.
It was a good spread. Walked a bit more and stretched out. Hit the showers and headed out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My Friends Knee.

Event comments:

This was a great race. The Volunteers were great. Lots of music. People are so into running and fitness in Vancouver that they line the streets and cheer you on. This being our first official Marathon, I can say we did a great job. We beat our training Marathon time by 15 mins.

I slept in the back of the car on the way home. Picked up some coffee and came home to my wife and kids. They were happy.
The medal, is beautiful. Actually a very nice medal of a salmon in Native art.
I slept on the couch off and on. Hydrating is happening. My friend said that it actually look like I lost weight.
My Tri Partner raced this and Qualified for Boston with a time of 3:37. Yeah!!!

Thanks everyone,
No Leah, I never picked him up literally, I just picked up his walking pace.
Funny thing was I was feeling pretty good, and I was saying so many positive things and that the hills were just little inclines, that people were giving me dirty looks!
I also liked some of the houses on Kits beach area, there was a bunch of women dancing in the windows with music blaring, freaking hillarious.
Oh and there was a sign that said Go CHUCK NORRIS Go, that was funny.
It was a fun race in all.
At the end my friend said " we will beat Oprah and P Diddy in Oct!"
He actually wants to do another one of these!

Cypress Hill - Insane in the Brain, if you are looking for it.

Well done son! We were out there in the rain and cold - can't say it was that enjoyable as a spectator, I much prefer the competitor role!

The guys that won it were doing a freakin 5min/mile....they were HAULIN!!!

Our friend that did it in 3:56 had to lie in the icebath for a half hour when she was done after bonking in Stanley Park. Have to say you'll be more than ready for Oliver next month!

That is so great what you did for your friend. We all need friends like you Dan.  Congrats to your friend too.  A marathon is a MAJOR accomplishment.  It's funny about him wanting to do another.  I felt the same way after completing the 1/2.
