The heck with comfort - what about style points?!

Style?

Then down...

Why?
- Most really cool bikes only have bosses on the down
- Some evidence that putting bottle on the down makes you more aero than nothing, and bottle on the seat tube makes you less aero

I've got both, but find the one on the down tube is easier to reach.  On long rides I'll usually switch them around after I empty one, putting the empty on the seat tube and moving the full one forward to the down tube.

Down Tube according to John Cobb. It is more aerodynamic.

Thanks for bringing up John Cobb.  I searched for his study and found this.  Interseting stuff.  Too bad the graphs are such poor quality though.

Which ever one you can reach easier, and take the bottle/put it back with the least disturbance to your balance. Make sure you can get it without looking.

Everyone should be able to do that no matter where the bottle is.

Standard move, I do that all the time.

John Cobb convinced me to go with the down tube.  I added a XLAb Flatwing behind the seat so I can have 3 bottles plus a saddle bag.  Don't need a fourth which is why I only want one in the frame.

Trek Batcages are awesome cages for frame and rear mount systems.  Bonus - they cost less than $10 each!

Down tube. I have both and the seat tube is tight to get het bottle out. I change the full to the down tube.
