Just read the article about getting back on the wagon, and signed up for a race.  Also signed up my boys for the Meek & Mighty, so we will be making St. A's a family event this year.

Who else is in?

I'm in, but I've got a lot of work before then. Should be interesting with the new swim course...hopefully we'll get the whole thing in this year.

It is going to be a crazy weekend for me. I graduate with my Masters (In Jacksonville) on Friday at 4p, and will be heading on Saturday morning for the race. It is going to be a great, yet busy weekend.

Hi there!

I watched St. A's last year. It was such a great race and fun to watch, so I've put it on my list. I was on the website trying to find out if they allow speedsuits.

Does anyone know?

Thanks

I'm going! I went last year and it was so fun! My first ocean swim since I am from a landlocked area. I won't get a chance for an OWS before I don't think. I plan to go every year if I can since it was so cool and I have family in the area.

10 weeks!

I am wondering, all you Floridians or others who might know, do you have any idea about if it will be wetsuit legal this year? I am wondering because I hate wetsuits, can't breathe, feel like I am choking. How cold is too cold down there to go without one?

Can't wait!!

You can go without a wetsuit without any issues. Whether it is legal or not varies from year to year, since the temperature is right around the limit. Last year it was no wetsuit. Looking forward to the race!

To NewJenny,

Hi, welcome. I did St. Anthony's for the first time last year and it was my second tri, also first ever ocean swim. So I am not the best to give any advice. I know I had a great time and I thought the event was well organized, however not many to compare it to. It did not matter to me really but they changed the swim at the last minute to a side beach and it was shortened. I guess the water was really choppy where the start was supposed to be. I understand there has been a problem with the swim in this race before. My wave was at 9:30 so had to wait a lot and do the run in the heat. The swim was weird because there was sea grass or weeds or something to try to run through (I felt like I was going to get tangled up in them!)and the water was mid thigh almost all the way to the first buoy, I wasn't even swimming till I was almost there! Loved it though, love the ocean!

The bike has lots of turns, some tight turns, as others more experienced than me, I guess it is called technical. But it was great, flew past lots of people, very flat course.

The run is flat too except for a little bridge that has a slight incline. The run was through a beautiful neighborhood. The locals were great, out in their yards, cheering and lots had hoses running to drench us in the heat. I got a side stitch during the run that kind of ruined it for me. I was in great pain by the time I crossed the finish line. I don't think I did enough bricks in training.

I have never done a different distance, but OLY is perfect for me, the distances are not bad at all. I can't run very much (not supposed to be at all due to a ruptured disc) or I would go longer.

Best of luck, you will have fun!

I've done St. A's several times.  I can only remember twice where it wasn't wetsuit legal since 2001 or 2002.  But if I had to bet, I would say it won't be wetsuit legal.  We've had a warmer than usual winter. Get those speed suits ready.

I would add two things:  1) the bike course can get very crowded (depending on your wave start).  with the crowds and numerous turns, make sure you have good bike handling skills and 2) more often than not, the bike course can get windy.  Be ready for some wind.  Good luck.
