That is one of the things we are working on. I know some of the restuatants will give discounts this year. I am sure Mr. Jack'ss, and Los Quatro Amigos will do something.  I have other places I need to talk to.

I am doing the half this year also. It will be my first half, so I'm prettty excited. I do some of my bike training on the bike course. It is such a great ride.

Yeah! If these restaurants had tables set up around the inside perimeter of the tent, athletes could go around and sample the fair. Great hors d'oeuvres idea!!!

This is going to be my first HIM as well.  I've heard a lot of good things about the event through forums as well as friends who have raced the event in the past.  Great to read through the thread.

Where are some decent places to stay?

Thanks for all of the information!

Timberlane resort, is operated by Jerry'd Marine (989) 362-8641. Two years ago they remodeled their cabins. We have had friends stay in them and they are very nice. They are located on the point about 3 miles from Downtown.

Bay Inn of Tawas (989)362-0088 www.BayInnTawas.Com It was a Days Inn the owners bought the motel next door, Crows Nest and gave up franchise. Not because its nasty, just to save money. (we have family that will stay here.

Perfect Landing rests individual vacation homes (989)362-3300

The Bambi is an older motel, but very clean (989)362-4582, we have family that will stay here.

The State park also has cabins to rent.

Any update on the addition of a short course Du?  There are a whole bunch of us registered for different events, but there are several spouses that want to join the fun too.

FWIW, I asked Kenny about last year by email.  The response I received, was that they have offered them in the past at other events and have had very limited numbers.  Seems to me, that all of the timing mats and logistics are already in place for other events, other than programming the timing and possibly adding a turn around.  If the worry is medals for limited sign up, they could just expand the AGs to 10 year blocks.

Thanks for the follow up!!!

Great stuff here.  I will not be there, but I do have that boat sitting in the driveway.  Maybe some actualing boating weekend at Tawas would be fun.

It has been a great boating season. The Bay is about 70 deg and has been great for skiing and tubing this summer.

If you are doing the 3D festival and don't normally stick around for the dinner after, you may want to change your plans. It looks like Los Cuatro Amigo's will cater this year. If you have ever eaten at one of their restuarants, you know it is top notch authentic Mexican food.

Getting excited for the HIM.  It's going to be here before we know it.  Only one more tri for me beforehand.  Ludington Lighthouse Oly.

I hope everybody's training is going well!

Nice!!  Pretty good reviews on Urbanspoon and Yelp.  Just remembered a suggestion I thought I'd posted before, a few places to sit down on the finish line area.  Most races have picnic tables, etc.  Because of the line being on the street, I just wanted a place to sit for a few before stretching and getting something from the refreshment tent.  And, gotta ask again, any movement on a short course Du?

No movement on a short DU, but I might be able to do something about seating.

I keep my boat at the marina next to the swim course and check the water temp most every weekend. It has been between 70 and 73 degrees.

We are supposed to have some cooler temps next week, so a small drop is expected. But I would anticipate it will be within 2-3 degrees of 70 on race day. Which is like bathwater for Lake Huron.

Love this race and the area.  We will be up Thursday and staying in town until Monday.  Staying at a cottage south of town on Lake Huron.  I am doing the Olympic.

I hope they don't overserve me at G's Pizza again this year .

If Lake Huron stays around 70 that would be nice.  Two years ago on the Friday prior to race day the water was painful to swim in and not as bad on race morning.  The neoprene caps are all ready packed just in case.

Twohearted (sprint) and I (Half) will be arriving Thursday til Sun or Mon depending on weather.

Two of our daughters (sprint) will be up on Friday-Sunday.

Haven't done much training since Battle of Waterloo and will just make it through the day with no time goals.

I am doing the half. I should be around transition area and registration area for set up on Thursday and Friday. I would like to meet other BTer's. If anyone runs into any problems or are just looking for information while in the area, get a hold of me. I may not know the solution , but may be able to send you the right direction.

Reading the email from 3D sounds like the city is doing a impact study?  Is this event still on the chopping block due to some of the whiny business owners?  Wish I knew who some more of them were besides the couple I've run across as I'd prefer to spend my money on those that support us.  I don't think anything will change some of these guys minds as there all ready set in there ways.

We're coming up on Friday afternoon as well.  Looking forward to doing a short swim.  We have two in for the 1/2 and two for the Oly.  I'll be lining up for the 1/2.  I'm actually glad to hear about the cooler temps headed our way.  Raced the Ludington Lighthouse and loved the weather we had for that.
