Expert 1123  Montana | Subject: RE: Hello?!? Anybody home? I am home in Montana! The posting here is pretty slow, but you can always use an 'inspire' to get my attention. There are plenty of races in the June-August season. My favs: The Grizzly Triathlon in April - the largest (by number of competitors) indoor-swim triathlon in North America. (Missoula) ZooTown - MONSTER bike ride, 50 meter outdoor pool. Super fun! Beaverhead Y-Tri - July 21st this year. I don't get to run this, because I am the race director. This is an easy course with beautiful mountains and river, and great food. |

I'm planning on doing the Bozeman Tritons half in July and Harvest Thunder in August but I'll check out the races you suggested. I'll try to work on that this week. Also, there is a demolition derby at the fairgrounds (very close to the Y) Saturday night after the race, and Bannack Days that weekend, a celebration of Montana's mining heritage and pioneer life. |

Here is a great site for finding MT races: http://runmt.com/ A couple great sprint tris in the Flathead Valley area are: Summer Solstice Triathlon in Kalispell, MT and Whitefish Lake Triathlon in Whitefish, MT. Also, The Garden City Triathlon in Frenchtown, MT just North of Missoula is a fast, flat Olympic distance. Montana is awesome! Hope you enjoy it! |

Newbie to triathlons, but it has been on my bucket list for several years and I finally decided I better commit to it or age would preclude it! I am in eastern Montana which means I have to travel to participate in any tri events. I am looking at ones in Helena and Bozeman in July. I wonder how cold the water will be? I have biked for 2 years and been running for 8 years, but just got in the pool this winter. Why is that swimming laps is so different than the drinking margarita's poolside swimming I have done the last decade? Oh - I could probably answer that myself!! |

Extreme Veteran 786 | Subject: RE: Hello?!? Anybody home? Someone just mentioned the Spring Meadow Lake Olympic Triathlon (July 1st) to me today. Doesn't look like much info/registration is available online yet. Anybody know if it's on? As for the water temps, I asked that question of the Bozeman Tritons race director and was told it would be wetsuit legal but that wetsuits weren't absolutely necessary, so probably close to the cutoff (78 degrees?). |

I live in the southeastern part and while we don't have the majestic mountains, we have truly rugged beauty where you can run and ride for miles and miles without traffic or trouble - although I did encounter a turkey on my bike just this morning! I am doing my first sprint tri in Billings on July 22. Nervous about the swim, but looking forward to putting all the pieces together! |
