Run
Comments: Made my way to the front, about 15 feet from the starting line. Started out a bit too fast, but then slowly settled into my pace. Problem was, I never felt comfortable at 7:20. My pace kept bouncing around between 7:35, and 7 flat when I noticed my pace was falling off. It wasn't that it was "hard" to run 7:20...I just couldn't run AT that pace. Coming out of Nimitz, I knew 1 hour was going to be really close...especially with the hills coming up. Mentally I tried to push the hills hard knowing I would catch a little breather on the downhills. My cardio was fine...but my legs were getting heavy. Probably from dragging around a little extra weight. Once we made that short right turn off of Kam Hwy, it was the home stretch. I knew I had to make up a little bit of time, so once in the stadium parking lot, I stopped looking at my watch and just started to try and pick people off. As I came down the tunnel, I finally saw the clock, and knew I had sub 1 hour. I let up a little in the last 20 yards, but that cost me about 8 places overall...LOL. What would you do differently?: Manage my weight better over the holidays. Pretty much all I could expect to run at 166 pounds. 8 pounds lighter should be about 10-15 seconds faster per mile...or around 57ish minutes where I wanted to be. Post race
