Comments: Glad I brought my hand-carry water bottle and a couple gels. Nice being able to take a sip whenever I want instead of planning around aid stations. WIll need to remember this in the future. I stuck with the 3:15 marathon pace group until mile 8. This was my plan. If I was feeling god, I would charge ahead. If I was just happy to be keeping up with the group, I would ride it into the finish...or at least as far as they would go before the split for the marathon runners. I felt good after 8 miles so I gave it a go. I ended up with a really good negative split on the course because of it. I averaged 7:20-ish until the 8 mile mark and I finished with a 7:09 pace average overall by the end. I'm very happy with my effort and ability to stick to my plan this race. What would you do differently?: Next time, I'll start with a faster pace group, like maybe one running about a 7:10 pace and see if my 8-mile plan works out such that I can PR. Next time, I would not wear a long sleeved dry-fit shirt under my short sleeved dry-fit shirt. I got too hot after about 4-5 miles. A short sleeved shirt, shorts, and a running hat would have been perfect. Post race
Warm down: Walked through the finish chute, grabbed a bagel, chips, water, Gatorade, etc. Stretched while I waited for my gear bag to be retrieved. Immediately put on my jacket and pants to keep warm since the sweat on my body was really chilling me. Caught up with and old friend from AMAT and waited for my buddy Bryce to finish. PBJ for breakfast, loaded bike in truck to ride from my parking spot to the bike valet/start/finish
Pretty much nothing. Stayed in my warm clothes for as long as possible then had a brisk walk from gear check to the start line.
