Overcast
Total Time = 1h 55m 5s
Overall Rank = 18/71
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/7
Event warmup:

ran back to the car to put things away, this helped get the blood flowing. Also swam a few strokes to get used to the water so there were no surprises on water temp.
Swim
  • 17m 12s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

breathe every other stroke for slightly better speed.
work on better start-- I was in 2nd row, I would start out front!
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

This transition was ok. More thought, more practice would make it better. I did not run up the stairs, they were spaced too close/short and I didn't want to misstep and fall.
What would you do differently?:

Run with the bike to the transition line, get on while the bike is moving...?
Bike
  • 1h 05m 5s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 15.21 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

I didn't run much when I brought in the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Could run more with bike. Could also get the shoe-ties to slip in/out of the shoes faster.
Run
  • 28m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

this was a good time for me, even though it was my weakest event overall.
What would you do differently?:

not stop. I slowed to a very fast walk two times. I will continue to work to eliminate those.
Post race
Warm down:

I stretched several times as we wandered around chatting and eating.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of sleep. more speed drills for running. better bike endurance.

Event comments:

I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of this race. It was my first tri, and a great one to sink my teeth into. Challenging bike, followed by a flat trail run. Good combination. Well organized.

Great Race...it was a great event (even with the challenging bike course).  It was awesome having such a big event in our little town.  Hope to see you next year.

I did have a good race for me. I came out with the intention that this was to be a hard 'training' day -- it was not my goal event for the season. I was very pleasantly surprised by my results, makes me want to train harder for the 'big one' in June.

Hope to see you next year-- I'll be back!

Hey, congrats on your race, too!! Sounds like you had a good performance that day, too. Did it meet/excede your expectations?

I'd definitely like to do it again. I have to admit, when I heard where it was I knew the possibility for tough bike and run routes. In fact, I expected both to be harder with more difficult hills... It was challenging, scenic, and well run. I'll be back!
