You will love it. Laurie Mehler runs a great race and everyone there is very friendly.

I saw that Dan and Helen are both signed up as well, and this will be the third time my wife is doing it.

The only down side to the race is that the bike course is a crazy 8 and ist seems like you are constantly going into th wind, but it is a very flat course.

As Verga said, I am in. Tom, I am glad to see that your wife is racing again.

Congratulations to our first-timer. I think you will really enjoy the race. Let us know if you have any specific questions about the race or the area.

Congratulations to our first-timer. I think you will really enjoy the race. Let us know if you have any specific questions about the race or the area.

Thanks for the offer! I read this is a great race for first timers and saw they had an informational meeting for first timers so I thought that would help a lot.

I am so overwhelmed to make sure I train well and making sure I have the essential gear. Right now I am stuck deciding whether to get a tri suit or go separate with shorts and a shirt. Also, how is the snake swim? right now I haven't trained long enough in my swim to put down a good average time. Is it chaotic or pretty well controlled?

Seed yourself accurately for the swim.  They send swimmers out about every 6 -10 seconds and it can be bunched up a bit.  They occasionally will hold off for a few minutes to let the crowd thin if needed.  Practice flip turning especially with going under the ropes of the lane next to you.

Speaking just for me, I swear the tri suit, mainly because I got it at a great price off of e-bay. The biggest problem with the Tri suit has to do with the port a potties.

The swim line will be long but to reiterate what Queen Zipp said be as accurate as possible in your timing. And don't make the mistake I made the last three years of going out to fast.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

I sprained my ankle very badly last weekend so I don't think there will be any rooster tails. I am just hoping to compete.

There are lots of hotels not too far from the race site, I am just at a loss for the names of the chains over there.

There is a ploace that is dirt cheap, but it is located next to a strip club. I can't remeber the name of it I will ask my wife.

There is a "Motel 6" and a "Days Inn" that are both pretty good, but it is a (short) bit of a drive.

I will have to stay away from the dirt cheap one with the family coming down to watch I will check the others out. Thanks!

Verga- Thanks for the info however, we got into the Hampton Inn, which I believe is the hotel for the race. My FIL is in Richmond for a forestry show for Catepillar and has a bunch of points from all the traveling he does so we got in 'free'. I have to be there Saturday for the "first timer" meeting though so we are going to head down with the whole family and make a weekend out of it.

Hey, do any of you usually meet up before the race or anything?

As of yesterday swim times have not been updated.

I made an adjustment on mine and it shows up in my profile, but not on the list yet.

I am seriously pumped for this event, there is nothing like the first race of the season.
