Subject: BR Beach Marathon?

Anyone ever heard of this thing selling out?  If so when?

THIS is what I want to run for my first mary.  I know about the new Louisiana Marathon (and would have loved to have run it last year) but in reality, the timing sucks for long runs on the holidays (and snow for me).  Not to mention, running through around campus and the lakes has a VERY strong meaning and place in my heart.

I'm contemplating if I just bite the bullet and register now (and pray for a great season w/ no injuries).  Or if I at least wait until August.

While part of me figures that perhaps their numbers might be hit by the popularity of the LaMarathon, I'm also seeing A LOT more people down there on FB getting into running.

BTW... good luck to all those running CCC this weekend, hope you can ditch the snorkle to breath by then!

I did the BR Beach as my first mary last year and did not register until right before the last price increase (can't recall exact date) but there was no problem with selling out.  There were only a couple of hundred people that did the full anyway.  The vast majority of participants did the half and boy did the roads clear out for the second loop of the course.  Good luck with your training and stay healthy. Running through campus also meant a lot to me too and I am glad that I chose this race as my first full mary.  The food afterwards is really good and nothing like a good cold beer after either.

Not much of a fan of Alligator Sauce Picante (can't stand alligator, think I skinned and cleaned too many of them as a kid) so I'm thinking afterwards I'm heading straight to Louie's
(or TJ Ribs... or Brewbachers... or Chimes... or somebody's kitchen)

OH, I don't suppose the SilverSpoon is still around??
mmm... Smothered Pork Chops!!!

I've done the BR Beach half for the past 4 years, neither the half nor the full ever sell out, especially the full.  You'll be safe waiting.    The LA Marathon was my first full, definitely worth considering.  You still get all the joys of campus (not twice of course) with some extra views you don't get at BR Beach, but I can understand your desire to train earlier to avoid the holidays.

Best of Luck.

Just be warned, I did a few years back, and man was that a lonely second loop. I'm not too thrilled with covering the same territory twice, but it was thoroughly depressing to have what seemed like 90% of the participants peel off at the halfway mark.

The first loop I'll run w/ the masses and enjoy the scenery, the second loop I'm going to run w/ my memories... and oh the memories there are

In case your interested... here's my race dialog..
The first part of the run takes me through childhood to college memories of tailgating along Nicholson (and the mad dashes to NorthGate liquor to refill the keg - that should be easy mental); then the turn to run past my college career and the buildings that hold all so many more memories (NGraham (I know torn down, but I'll still see it ), Long Fieldhouse, Greek Theater (wonder if I can get some old friends from my band days to line up for me?), Christ the King, Acadian Hall, Cow Palace, SRSC; then on Greek row it's off to my 5am Tues/Thur run w/ my best friend Jenn (except this time its backwards routing); I'll have to push through the neighborhood north of I-10, b/c I don't know it as well, except for a few friends that now live there); and finally, through the nieghborhoods on the north side of the lake is where Jenn and I picked what our dream house would look like (doors from this one, windows from that and roofline of another), and what do you know, we're back at the beach

Just know that when you see me crying during the race and at the finish line, I'm not in pain... I'm just sad b/c sometimes I miss those days the memories they hold.

To echo what the others said, you'll be fine waiting. It hasn't sold out before. I did the half last year and will most likely be doing the half or full again this year. I won't be registering until at least Sept-Oct. Last year I don't think I registered until Oct-Nov, not until I had bought my plane ticket.

I don't mind a lonely race as long as there are water stops. But yes, most people do the half.

The post-race offerings were typical LA, small town race kind of feel. I thought it was fun.

I've been watching airfare everyday for the past month... I scored a flight for $239 directly into BTR!!  Haven't flown home for that cheap since April 2000!!!

LET'S GEAUX!!!!!

btw... if anyone wants to meet up, I'll be hoarding myself at Louie's Sunday morning
Not sure WHERE I'll be watching the SEC championship yet.

I'm undecided. I have finals the next week. Will depend on how confident I'm feeling with my study time.
