Subject: New sneakers on a 19 mile run?
I just got a new pair of sneakers (the same model that I was running in--Brooks Adrenaline--just the 2012 version) and ran one 5 mile run in them. My run tomorrow is 19, and I'm wondering if it would be bad to use them since they're probably not 'broken in' yet. Any recommendations? Should I still with the old, more worn out ones for one last long run?

Running shoes don't need to be broken in.  As long as they fit well (and, being the same model, that's likely), enjoy your run in the new shoes.

Yeah, I agree. I think they are fine. Especially since you ran 5 in them with no issues AND they are the same make and model.

As said above, they don't need to be broken in.

probably be fine wearing either your old or your new shoes. Myself, I can't wait to get a new pair of shoes out for a long run.

I may be superstitious or superstupid, but I would not do 19 as my second run in new shoes, even if they are the same size/model.

Newer models of shoes tend to not need break-in much, if at all. The 5 mile was fine, so the 19 should go well too, at least from the shoe standpoint. I did 17 with a pair straight out of the box and was fine, good pace for me at the time. But I was used to that model of the shoe. If it was a different type of shoe, I'd say wait longer and build it up some.

While training for my first marathon I was having all sorts of issues with my feet/legs killing me after mile 18...I decided it was my shoes so I had the same model of my previous shoe overnighted to me 9 days away from the race...I put them on out of the box and ran 20 miles in them. Didn't have any issues at all...

I would wear the new shoes because I am just like that.  If its new I have to use it.

This is in spite of my last experience which was going from the ASICS DS trainer 16 to the next model the DS trainer 17.  Essentially the same shoe with some subtle differences not uncommon from one model year to the next.  First time out was about 5 miles and developed quarter size blisters on the inside of my heals.  Had a half marathon a week later and the blisters got a bit worse.  Have since built up enough callous and they are fine now.

x2 for me - at 19 you have a lot invested... Would be a shame to lose that base over a new pair of shoes!

I just got some new shoes yesterday, and took them out for 8km right away.  They felt great, and I wouldn't hesitate taking them for a long run if I weren't racing this weekend.  Can't wait to take them for their first race!

Thanks all! I'm gonna take em out for the run. It's supposed to be a beautiful morning in Denver (what else is new...) so, even if they give me a little trouble, I try to let the weather take my mind off of it. I'll let you know what happens!
