Subject: Cervelo share the ride advice...
First post...I purchased a P3 Dec 31st under the share the ride promotion. LBS supposedly paired me up and supposedly ordered the bike charging me retail minus $1000 (I have a receipt). I was told by owner that as long as LBS ordered the bike before Jan 1st or so I would receive it by the Jan 31st promotion deadline. The last week of Jan I called LBS and was told bikes were delayed, probably till early Feb, but that I already paid so the discount still stands. Feb 20th or so I call LBS, bike delayed till maybe early Mar. It's winter so I try to be patient. Mar 20th LBS says maybe April and offers me my money back if I want. What I really want is the bike at the nice promotion price so I say I will wait a bit more....Now it's mid Apr and the weather is better and still no bike. My wife thinks I am nuts here and that I am being too passive....I would appreciate some BT advice here, thanks

I've read a lot of posts that most Cervelos have been delayed for at least a few months, so I really don't think it's the LBS's fault.  Some have gotten theirs in March, others say April-June.

With this information, I wouldn't sweat it and  I'd wait it out. You got a great deal and it think it's worth the wait.

I'd keep waiting.  I had to order my P3 but fortunately only had to wait 3 weeks.  It was worth the wait.

I feel very lucky that I got mine the day I bought the bike.  I am sure its Cervelo inventory issues (Im pretty convinced they blew out their inventory before the PON deal closed).  I would call Cervelo for the real answer on availability.  Good luck....I don't think you are crazy for waiting....it was a heck of a deal.

Keep waiting. Cervelo has had a history of delivery issues. The only possible issues is will you get it in time for this season. If not, you might want to consider another option. BTW there are a lot of great used deals on P2 and P3s right now.

I would obtain necessary info from LBS and contact Cervelo myself.  They may be able to provide you with more accurate delivery date, and most of all confirm LBS actually placed the order correctly and that you are in the queue.

Initially the deal was supposed to be limited to existing inventory, and had to be delivered before Jan 31. I was talking to our Cervelo rep and he said it was unbelievable how many people ordered bikes. I was very lucky and had mine in 2 weeks, my share the ride buddy just got his a couple weeks ago.

The LBS has the ability to look online into Cervelo's inventory and anticipated ship dates. They could also call their rep and see if they can chase a bike down at another LBS. That's how I got mine, they were able to swap my bike (51cm P2) for a different one from the other LBS.

Which probably means they aren't even in Cervelo's inventory yet. Which is why everyone is hoping PONS takes over supply chain management for Cervelo and let's them stick to engineering great bikes.

I'd cancel and get something else, personally. $1000 off isn't an unheard of discount for some bikes. You should be able to find something you like in a similar price range.

I appreciate the comments and it has help to stabilize the wife...she still thinks I'm nuts though...I guess it seems just crazy that an LBS contacts their supplier Cervelo and can't get even a resonable ballpark estimate of shipping date...I would take the money back but the only bike that really interests me is the SHIV comp rival which would cost me another $1000...and I might have to wait for that too...I figure the P3 with power and an aero helmet has more potential for me than the SHIV alone...still debating waiting til May but my race season starts in June

When I got mine in January it was already in stock so I took it right home.  However, last week my front derailleur ripped out of the frame during a very hilly ride.  It was established that it wasnt my fault, so it is under warranty.  My LBS said they would have a replacement frame to me in 4 or 5 days.  I sure hope they are right, but this thread makes me a bit nervous.

My replacement frame is supposed to be in tomorrow and ready built up tomorrow evening, just in time for a 40k TT.

I ordered my P2 Dec 29th or 30 and I just got it two weeks ago.  My story was just like yours.  My LBS would call and say it's coming next week and it just wouldn't get here.  I was very fustrated and thought many times about cashing in and buying a lesser bike.  Now that I've got the bike and have done numerous rides I'm very happy I waited.  I could have waited till May, but if it wasn't here by May 1st I would have had to go buy a different bike.  I wasn't riding my crappy road bike for a HIM.

A few thoughts on this:

For many people buying a new race bike is their first experience with buying specialty, high end racing equipment. It isn't like buying a Ford Escort off the lot, it is like a buying a race car. There is less supply and it takes more money and time to make the process happen largely becasue of economies of scale.

Want a nice Trek hybrid, road or touring bike around $500-$700? Larger dealers have rows of them in stock ready to go. They are Ford Escorts: Good, dependable, readily available, easy to make.

Want a high end, aerodynamic, molded carbon fiber triathlon bike? Not as common a transaction in the grand scheme of thngs. Even the big bike dealers don't have rows of 54cm Cervelo P2's in stock. Maybe Nytro, R&A Cycles, TriSports.com, Austin Tri Cyclist and a few other specialty retailers will have full size runs, maybe not.

Good news: The recent acquisition of Cervelo by Pon Holdings will likely enable Cervelo to have more precise control over supply in the season. That said, Cervelo does well to keep the supply tight. It's the reason an old Cervelo P3 aluminum frame on E-Bay commands a premium.

It's racing equipment, not a consumer commodity like running shoes. That has always exerted different effects on the supply chain.
