Subject: Blue Marsh Lake this Weekend??

I am looking for an OWS experience in advance of my tri in May.

Sadly, the closest place to do OWS that I have found is in Blue Marsh Lake which is a 90 minute drive for me from suburban Philly.

My schedule in early May sucks so I am looking to head out there either this weekend or the following weekend.

I suspect the water may be too cold but has anyone gone out there yet this year?

I have a wetsuit but it's sleeveless.  I figure I can wear two caps and give it a try.

Any suggestions??  Has anyone gone out yet this year??

Doug

That's not too bad.

This site says it's 53 which is pretty cold!   http://www.fishingnotes.com/lakeinfo.php?id=26331

Anyone know which site is more reliable??

I love it.  53...that's some dedication to get in the water at that temp.

Let us know how it goes.

I am tentatively planning to go this Saturday afternoon.  The site says the temps should be around 60.  Balmy.

Wish me luck.

Doug

I saw from your other thread that you postponed your swim this weekend. I am planning to go to Blue Marsh next weekend to get a swim in with my new wetsuit before my first race the following weekend. Let me know if you are interested and we can try to get a schedule together that works for both of us. I am hoping to have a friend in a kayak accompany me just in case I run into trouble.

Vince,

I am tentatively planning for Saturday afternoon.   I have a bike club ride in the morning, so would probably be heading out around 2ish.

In case anyone is following this thread, I postponed (yet again!) my trip to blue marsh.

However I will be going this Saturday, May 5th in the afternoon.

I am hoping the milder weather forecast for this week will help warm the water a couple of degrees.

OK the water temps are still chilly but I am definitely going there this Saturday (May 5th).  If anyone sees a dorky tall skinny guy in a wetsuit out there, that will be me!

Well we finally made it today.

I went with a friend who is very experienced.

He gave me some tips on sighting, and also purposely hit me on the feet several times so I could get used to that.

We were in the water for about an hour. Surprisingly, the chilly water did not bother me at all. It was very refreshing!
