Event warmup:

Swam for 5 minutes
Swim
  • 32m 58s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt constrained wet suit. Found it difficult to get into a groove. Believe I may need to work on breathing and overall technique/form.
What would you do differently?:

Better sighting - seemed to zig zag off course a lot
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

Had difficulty clipping into pedals. (Speed play)
What would you do differently?:

Buy a singlet - had to put on shirt and zip up. Have confidence in preparation and trust that I had what I needed. Seem to hesitate before I grab bike and go

Comments:

...learning that you can 'red-line' olympic distance races. Held back for fear of finishing run. Turned out to have more in the tank...
What would you do differently?:

1 gear harder at same cadence
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Unable to dismount and run ahead due to bottleneck at transition, but overall fairly strong transition for me
What would you do differently?:

just try to do it all faster
Run
  • 49m 25s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. Course was bad and was worried about turning an ankle. Held back knowing that I am training for longer races this year
What would you do differently?:

Studied race web-site more and worn a pair of trail shoes. (Venue changed a few days prior to race; so it was a bit of a surprise)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swim and bad running surface conditions

Event comments:

Good race, but the coordinators had a 'curve-ball' thrown their way with the local marina. Had to change venues with little notice. Only thing that suffered was the run course. Swim course did seem longer than 1500 - curious if others would say the same.

I could have lived without the gravel, but I was pleased they were able to get the course together on short notice.

I did not find the swim to be long.
