Hello all,

Ijust signed up on this forum and wanted to introduce myself. I am doing my first tri June 11 - the Tejas Tri in Sugarland. Is anyone else planning on doing this one? I live in the Heights in Houston and would welcome any new swim/bike/run partners...

Andrew

It is a fun one, I did Tejas last year as my first race. I hope to better my time this year. You will have a great time. I look forward to meeting you.

Welcome to BT Andrew!!!

If Jim is there, I will be there too!! I also did it last year, it is a very well run event. The bike is a differant route this year, there was a bad expantion joint a few riders got caught in. Should be a good time.

I do a brick on Thursdays at Memorial Park Picnic loop. There are a few other BTers and HRTC members as well. I get there around 6:30 and do a 20 mile ride then a 3-6 mile run. Come out and join us tomorrow night.

Joe,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to meet yall Thursday evening for the brick...but have a schedule conflict. I'm generally trying to get my workouts done in the morning...but I might have to tweak a little so I can join yall on Thursdays in the future. Thanks again!

Welcome to BT! BTers are a friendly bunch in general, and we have lots of good Texans in particular.

Hey Buddy - Welcome to the BT Houston Crew :D

Houston is a big city and we are all in different parts - I'm usually training in the early morning, but on the northwest side of town.

For swimming nearby, the closest thing is the downtown YMCA. There is a masters swim there, but its at night - however they do keep the workouts up on the board. ... the Downtown YMCA also has the earliest spin class that I know of (5:15 am) for 45 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It makes for a quick series of 2 a days  (Spin and swim)

For race like conditions, consider some of the long rides outside the loop... Northwest Cyclery runs a lot of rides out of Hockley on the weekends and HRTC runs some long rides outside of Montgomery. Good base bulders at a slow pace 14-16 MPH, 17-20, and 20+

For running - You have a loop I am envious of... the Heights loop is a nice piece of real estate to run up and down on Heights Boulevard (I think they have a 5K there on June 3rd).  I get to run around the Horsetrack.

If this is your first season, just do basework - get used to the distances and increase your endurance.  Don't get discouraged - this can be a lonely sport sometimes, but the people are some of the most helpful and friendly I've ever found.
