Subject: RE: 1st Tri - June 11th Houston Hey Buddy - Welcome to the BT Houston Crew :D Houston is a big city and we are all in different parts - I'm usually training in the early morning, but on the northwest side of town. For swimming nearby, the closest thing is the downtown YMCA. There is a masters swim there, but its at night - however they do keep the workouts up on the board. ... the Downtown YMCA also has the earliest spin class that I know of (5:15 am) for 45 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It makes for a quick series of 2 a days (Spin and swim) For race like conditions, consider some of the long rides outside the loop... Northwest Cyclery runs a lot of rides out of Hockley on the weekends and HRTC runs some long rides outside of Montgomery. Good base bulders at a slow pace 14-16 MPH, 17-20, and 20+ For running - You have a loop I am envious of... the Heights loop is a nice piece of real estate to run up and down on Heights Boulevard (I think they have a 5K there on June 3rd). I get to run around the Horsetrack. If this is your first season, just do basework - get used to the distances and increase your endurance. Don't get discouraged - this can be a lonely sport sometimes, but the people are some of the most helpful and friendly I've ever found. |
