Well played, may man.  Well played.  Is the meeting place at T1 obvious?  Keep your phone on you in case we mislocate each other.  Mark, send me your phone/text number via PM.

I've got a 5K at 8:00 at SM Park (Corporate Challenge).  I could easily make it to Lawence by 11:00.  Haven't decided yet but I WILL be drinking some Cerveza sometime that afternoon regardless.  I did NOTHING this weekend, knee's bugging me, gave it a rest.

I was hoping to make it Saturday, but I've got the warrior dash that afternoon that I kind of forgot about. I may try to go Sunday if anyone wants to. I can't really skip it, I told a friend of mine I'd run it with him for his first endurance event.

So it looks like we might be getting into town this Saturday a little sooner than expected. Would a 10AM start time throw off anybody's plans too bad? I mean, I know we're all at different speeds/abilities so maybe trying to start at the same time is kind of silly, but if we're gonna be organized we might as well be organized, right?!

Now that I think about it, I might need the extra hour just to finish with the rest of the pack anyway...

I can do whatever works- just plan on drinking and watching the Derby that evening.  Will we have a couple pace groups?

We just need to pick a time.  Right now, the set time is 11:00AM.  If we want to change it --- CHANGE IT ---- but be absolute about it.  People need to plan ahead for these long workouts and moving things around last minute can be a deal breaker for some.

Having said that, I can be there just about anytime.  Wink

I am good for 10 or 11. Probably needs to be dictated by the out of towners. Sounds like Lisa will lead a 15-16 group. I am good with an ~18 group.

Yep, Lisa hasn't chimed in for a while.  She set the 11:00 start, so she should be the one to decide if it changes.

I am in with Jon's pace group.

Couple of friends on Facebook are throwing around May 5 as a "ride the course" day if anyone else is interested. I would be happy to lead a 15-16mph group, plus a short brick run afterwards.

I'd prefer a morning start but am pretty flexible.

Any takers?

Count me in with this group Will hopefully arrive there no later than 11AM (preferably earlier though you know how that goes sometimes). What time are you thinking you'd be starting?

11 a.m. start time sounds great to me.

The 11AM start time was more of a "group" decision...

We should figure out what the expectations are. During the week I go riding with a group of roadies and what we do is we all ride out together and keep the group together if we can, but if people fall off in the hills that's fine. At every turn the group stops and waits for the riders to catch up. Everyone catches their breath and we set out again.

Now, realizing that we are all triathletes training for a specific race that doesn't allow drafting or blocking (or any other kind of camaraderie) some folks might want to ride solo at their own pace while others might want to ride together. Knowing what everyone's expectations are ahead of time will help to mitigate any hurt feelings or sense of abandonment while we're out there. And if people are going to ride solo it doesn't really matter when they are going to start. It's not like the roads are only going to be open to bikes for a set amount of time.

I am fine either way, group or solo (or a mix of both). I'm comfortable in my skills at handling my tri bike in a group (even rode it with the roadies a couple weeks ago--only rode in the aero position when pulling or if I was way off the back) but I know not everyone is cool with riding in a group with people on tri bikes. Based on how my 40 miler went this past Saturday I'll probably be somewhere in the 16.5 mph range for the full 56 this weekend.

Still have yet to figure out how to swing a 3 hour workout with travel time to and from on a weekend day without getting divorced without having to do it from 3am to 6am....

Don't forget the time to do a loop of the run course.  And some wetsuit time in the lake.  ;-)

Bribery works wonders Ryan. Don't forget we(or at least I am) are going to run the loop after the bike. It is supposed to be in the 90s on Saturday so perfect day to get the nutrition dialed in.

So, did we set a time to start the ride?  Is anyone really going to swim first?  That just sounds cold- I saw 63 for water temp- guess full sleeve suit and neo- cap would need to get out.

Swimming too?  Nah, swimming's overrated.  I want to start a Tri-talk thread that starts out with "I just started swimming, I can barely make 50 yards before I'm out of breath but I have the Kansas HIM in 6 weeks, is that enough time to train?"

Honestly, I could use the wetsuit time.  Never used one and want to be prepared for the KC Tri swim.  What is the swim policy at Clinton in the water at T1?  Can we just jump in there and swim around?  any limits?  Prohiited there?

I would be up for 15-20 minutes of wetsuit time stating at 10:00 or so if anyone else wants to.  That would give us time to do some swimming and still prepare for the bike at 11:00.

I can be there any time but it seems 11:00 a.m. is still the consensus?

As for expectations, I think if we plan on pace groups (15-16mph for me, someone else offered 18+), those groups should plan to stick together within the group for safety, but not wait for the other groups as a whole. Make sense? No need for the faster groups to wait on mine as that would kind of defeat the purpose of their ride a little.

Remember there are no gas stations or water stops on the course, save for the very end so plan accordingly and bring lots of water and nutrition.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

I'd like to join the group, but I have a wedding to attend early that afternoon so I'm out. However, I'll probably be rolling into T1 sometime after the gates open at 7 to do an early ride of the course. I might be finishing up right as everyone gets started - so I'll be sure to scout the course conditions for everyone.

I won't be going early to swim but will be there for the 11 am ride start and be ready to get a loop in on the run after.  I will join the 18 mph group.

I haven't heard any takers for the swim.  Just let me know if anyone wants to and if we even can in that area of the lake, and I will be there.

From what I found, the swim areas are open in May- so it sounds like you can swim from the beach in that section of the park- not from the boat ramp by T1 though.

We planning to meet at T1 or T2/Finish area on Saturday?  I will be in a Silver Grand Cherokee most likely and have my Silver P2C with me.

If by the end of the day nobody says they want to do some wetsuit time, I will punt that idea.  Otherwise, we could meet at 10:00 in an approved swimming area to get a short swim in an be ready for the 11:00 bike.

I suggest we meet at the T1 area at the end of N. 1415 Rd.  Those of us doing the run after can drive up to the T2 area and start from there, or just run one "loop" of the course starting and ending at T1.

Does the 18mph group want to wait for the 15mph group before we start the run, or should we have 2 run groups?

Finally . . . and I am going to be "that guy" . . . be ready to LEAVE on the bike at 11:00.  No arriving at 11:00 and dinking around untill 11:30 before pushing off.

(OK, I am the a-hole of the group now for saying that.Laughing
