It was one of those rides.

Almost got hit when someone made a left turn across my path.  Doesn't happen a lot but got the heart rate up.  Then driver actually honked at me like I did something wrong.

About 5 miles later a Penske rental truck passes and I felt it was pretty close as he went by.  Just as I think that he sideswipes me.  After the first hit I manage to stay upright hoping he had just drifted and will go back to the left.  He hits me a second time as he drifts even closer to the curb.  I'm thinking this isn't good as the rear wheels are spinning next to me and I'm running out of road and options.  He finally starts to slow down for the upcoming intersection and hits me the third time. I just lean against then truck until he stops.  I went to the cab of the truck and calmly explained he had just hit me three times.  I think he thought I was going to kill him and he wouldn't roll down the window.  I believe he thought it was OK to run me over since he wanted to make a right turn- even if I was in the way.

About 15 minutes later, a pile of nails in the bike lane.  The sealant in the rear tube was no match for that hole.  I did find a nice tree with lots of shade to change the tire under.

Don't you have casinos in AZ?  If so, I would drive over to one tomorrow.  You're due.

I would have had the urge to bust his cab window and rearrange his face. Sorry that happened to you. Glad you're not hurt.

honestly... that sucks.

Now call the nearest Penske rental truck company and report a hit and run.

Geez, how do you get hit 3 times and not wipe out?!

So happy this did not end like I thought. I was afraid to keep reading. Whew, glad you are o.k.

I thought about that- I actually have a friend that works for Penske so it was a little ironic.  I just wish I knew what people are thinking when they do what they do.  He was completely oblivious of the fact he hit me until I came up to the cab and let him know.

Hit you once shame on him...

I can't believe that you did nothing to move out of the situation after that.

Wow, that sounds very scary, glad you are OK.  You were very fortunate.  But the even better news is you surely have a year's worth of bad luck biking taken out in one fell swoop.  The rest of your riding season should be uneventful!

We had started to slow down for the intersection- I think that helped.  I was doing 20 and he was doing around 35. He just bumped me a few times and I leaned on the truck at the end until we stopped.  Just like the criterium races back in my college days.

Nowhere to go.  Curb on the right, truck on the left.  Didn't have time/skill to bunnyhop the curb onto the sidewalk.  Happened pretty quickly.

I understand ya now. I was just wondering (when I read it) why you weren't hitting the breaks to be away from this idiot.

Dude, your looking at this all wrong.  You are now set for the season.  Rather than keeping you guessing for the whole year Karma has dished it out all in one day.   No need to carry any tools or tubes.   Its over....
