Hello Steve,

Looks like a good race at the Dam.  I live close by so am looking forward to it a lot.  I have done a lot of my swim training down there when I prepared for Ironman Florida last year. I am planning Louisville or Florida in 2013...I see you have a nice schedule of races lined up..

I assume you follow a set plan as I don't see any posts on yout blog.  I tend to make it up as I go along from many years at marathoning and shorter running races as well as several triathlon distances...

Good luck to you in your training and racing..

I'm in! This is going to be a good test for my Rev3 Oly in Anderson a couple weeks later. I'm really looking forward to it, as long as I can get some OWS practice in beforehand!

Did it last year, good race. The run over the dam is nice. Not signed up yet but I'll be there!

Did it last year and liked it a lot.  Well run race.

Still have to sign up, but consider wife and me IN.

Convinced some of my friends to do it as well that were not there last year.

Though not really recovered from IMWI, I'm in.  Looks like a much much bigger field than last year.  That's nice to see.

Does anyone have any reviews on this race?

What is expected water temperature?

Exactly how hilly is the course? Normal cassette or climbing cassette.

Anything else that would be helpful. Thanks, Josh

I don't know what you consider for a need for the climbing cassette but I wouldn't think you would need it.  It's not flat by any means but the hills are pretty gentle. I'm a total noob though so I suggest you look at the mapmyride data for elevation. the run is flat. HERE (if the link works) is a graph of the water temperature the last week. I'm not sure where the water station is exactly but I think it's on the towers which is right near the swim course. surface temperature was 78 but with it being in the upper 40's at night expect that to drop some.  air temp is supposed to climb back tot he upper 80's by thursday.

I would say very likely to be wetsuit legal. The lake is around 78 now and hard to see how it warms up this week. No special climbing cassette required. It is mostly flat or false flat with a few mild rollers. Run is dead flat (on the dam). (I didn't do the race last year, but I'm very familiar with the area.)

Agreed. No steep climbs and the run is flat and scenic along the lake. Four trips across the dam on the bike will make for a fun ride as there will be plenty of time to hit some good speeds. You will climb out of the transition zone so be sure you are in a low gear and I would wear my bike shoes rather than pre-clip them to the pedals. Water is 77.6 tonight so I would anticipate wet suit legal but certainly warm enough to go without if you don't have one. Can't wait!

It'll be my first time doing this race, looking forward to it. Morales will be hard to beat as the kid is on fire and David Hall will be a tough one also with the long swim and bike relative to the run. My fitness is just starting to come back around after some weeks of injury so I'll just go with what I have and hope for the best. Good luck to all.

My intentions were to race but due to injury I'll have to sit this one out. Planning on being a volunteer now instead.

I broke in my new wetsuit with a mile on the lake last night. The water was plenty warm. You will only need a wetsuit for the speed advantage if your increased speed outweighs your increases time in T1 which it should with a little practice. Tally ho I hope you are impressed enough to compete in the next one soon. You will love the event and the people who participate. Great camaraderie and respect among the competitors!

Hey Nick.  Hall might be a bit toasted from IMWI.  I know I still am.  But he had a better day than I did, so maybe he's also recovering better.

did anyone else feel the run was short? I'm feeling like is was less than 4 miles instead of the listed 7k. For me my 5k PR is a 6:35 pace/mile but my time today would have resulted in a 6:10 pace/mile. Also the overall winner would have had to have run a 4:48/mile pace.

Overall great race today!

Yep, I got a 7:25 average, and there's no way I ran it at that pace. My friend said he got like 3.8 on his Garmin. How could it have been off, it's a straight shot?
