Since I started back training a couple of weeks ago, I've been going slow and adding 1 discipline each week. This week it was weight training. I had forgotten how much a love lifting weights. I've just returned from the gym and I'm trying to eat a salad but my arms are so fatigued that they shake trying to lift my fork. I may be a little sick in the head, but I love this feeling.

I feel ya. Wait until leg day when you have difficulty getting on and off the toilet (3-4 times)! Good times.. good times...

I love weight training too, almost too much. I'm afraid I'll go overboard and turn in to Arnie. It'll be hell trying to run with those massive inflatable biceps . . .

Welcome back to the iron -- however, eating a salad post-lifting seems a bit counter productive. Have a chicken breast and a baked potato!

Feed those muscles!!!

Well, it would be more accurate to say that I'm eating a little salad and about 8 oz of chicken.

Funny, I also love training with free wieghts, and have been trying to figure out how to work it back into my training. How are you managing that?

I'm probably not managing it all that well. I tend to like to lift heavy and to failure. I have increased my reps to 15 for each movement and lowered the weight a little, but still lifting to failure on each of 3 sets per body part.

I'll find out how well this is working tomorrow when I try to run. I tend to overdo it with the weights because that is my first love. I did find out when I first started tri training the first time about 4 yrs ago that if I avoid high weights and low reps and stick to a total body workout with 1 movement per body part 2 to 3 times/wk that I didn't get real sore. At least it didn't seem to intefere with my otehr workouts.

If you do overdo it, I have found that a long slow swim workout teh next day is great at working out the soreness.

I’m doing triathlons for the past two years and I've been "lifting" weights since February this year, and I've seen a considerably improvement in all my times…

I put “lifting” on quotes, because I’ve been training with so little weight that I sometimes got embarrassed… but what the hell, I don’t want to be like this guy…

My basic rule is… If I can’t complete the 15 reps without shaking, it’s too heavy…

somewhat off topic but that is a common misconception. many people will say they dont want to lift heavy cause they dont "want to get huge" lifting heavy will NOT make you huge. lifting heavy and EATING heavy will make you huge. if all you had to do was lift heavy there would be a lot more big guys running around.

I hear ya!  Since I joined the gym near my office about 4 weeks ago, I've been spending my lunch break there 4 days a week doing upper and lower (two days each) strength training.

I love the tired arms feeling.  Like when I have to worry about dropping my hot lunch as I carry it back to my desk, because it's just too much effort.

I must not be working my legs hard enough, though, because I haven't experiened the toilet "problem".

I started weight training back in October and really enjoy it. I am lucky to have a gym at work so I do strength during my lunch hour. Now that is tri season I know lots of folks drop strength training, but as a middle aged women, I think it important to continue it but only do it once a week.

After my my strength workout, I get that tired achey feeling in my arms and legs where going up the stairs at work feels funny...it is sweet knowing that I just made myself stronger. I love how I can tell I'm stronger...and now I can do regular push ups...it is all fun!

I did something to my back last week so today's strength training I lightened my weights just a tad and it seemed so easy...not as much post workout achey feeling.

I lift five days a week and I'm about 150 pounds. I've lost about 10 since tri training began in February and 35 from about 2.5 years ago when I started lifting and doing light cardio. It's an addiction.

I guess my point is you don't get big from lifting and I'm living proof. Heck I even do the core workout five days a week and I'm scrawny! I'm toned, though, which was my goal. Except for the damned love handles. They just won't go away.
