Did the bike course last night. That is one tight turn coming off of Airport Rd. I'm definitely going to have to slow down a bit. makes me nervous flying across that road. from the transition area, going out on bike and coming back on bike, is the course on the pavement or the gravel? There's not much difference as that pavement is pretty sketchy but still makes a difference. Where exactly is the finish line? is it on the Y Circle road?

Oh, I just remembered something else, do they let you warm up in the water or just bike and run? How much time do you all recommend. Do you think if I arrive at 6:30 is that enough time to get everything setup, marked-up, etc., or do I need more time?

I haven't ridden it yet, i will on thursday, probably drive it tonight.  if the gravel portion comes into use i hope the disc golf course is closed for the day because its a blind drive off of tee 4 directly over the gravel road, and the perfect line is ~4 feet off the ground.

You can warm up in the water until shortly before the first wave starts. 6:30 arrival may be ok but there is usually a long line at packet pick-up if you don't do it the day before so it will cut into your warm-up time. Don't forget to get your timing chip early. I would wear the timing chip during warmup. The problem I have found with warming up on the bike is it is still pretty dark out. It can be done safely but just be careful.

The finish line is usually in the circle beside the building.

All of the bike portions are on the asphalt but it can be sketchy with the potholes and loose gravel. In the past they have done a pretty good job at sweeping off the loose gravel and marking the potholes. You don't save much time by speeding through the crowd at this point in the race so I would take it easy, stand up and stretch on the bike, and get ready to run.

Thanks for the info. I've seen a couple people training last couple days, bike and run. It's exciting. Hope to see some of you at Columbo's to pick up packets, can you say carbo-loading with the family

I need help with directions.  I am not familiar with the area.  I can map the hampton inn....but do not see the y coming up when i search for it.  How do you get from the hampton inn to the parking area @ the Y?

- turn right out of the hotel parking lot

- turn left at the next light, Pendleton Rd

- make the second right into the Y parking lot, if you go back over the lake you went too far

Me too.  Why does there always have to "that guy" who is over aggressive on the swim?  I swear he was purposely trying to hit and kick me......I started kicking much harder.....he kept hitting....I starting taking my elbows out real strong and I guess he had enough.  What a moron.  Then looked back after the buoy and saw him well behind me....not sure what he was trying to prove.

My first year doing this event......not sure I will prepare next year by drinking beer the weeks before on the beach

ha i definitely rolled over a guy like the weekly swim at hartwell taught us this week; happened before the first yellow buoy.  only had one elbowing episode and that was in the final stretch.

I saw a guy with his wetsuit on inside out....I didn't want to say anything, as I am new to this and thought perhaps he had a reason.  It was an xterra suit and the blue was on the outside???

1)  Why?

2)  How the heck did he get it on?

Did xterra make a royal blue wetsuit?  If they did, I am wrong....but have not seen a royal blue suit before.

I think I know who you are talking about. He was talking about how his wetsuit "didn't work" after he finished.

The swim was a lot tighter this year for me (light blue cap wave). I got kicked and shoved a few times at the start, and then 200m in, there weren't many people around. I think I was somewhere in between the USAT Juniors and the main field. I'm glad I came out without too many people around because the T1 exit was really tight. My fiance said it got pretty congested once the pack moved through and people started stopping at the mount line to clip in. Overall, couldn't ask for better conditions for a race. There was definitely a lot more talent out this year which is great. Congrats to all who made this your first race.

Race conditions were great! I had a blast once I got out of the water, I couldn't be happier with my performance or the competition. But now I am back to the drawing board with my swimming. I got completely beat up in there. I was never scared or anything, just frustrated, people hitting me and kicking me. One person grabbed me and pulled themselves over me! I was ready to choke down some water etc. but that was a real eye opener.
