Subject: American Fork, UT and surrounding areas: Anyone want to do a longish ride on 5/6/11?

I'll be in American Fork, UT on the weekend of 5/4 and will have the Sunday morning free for a longish bike ride (40-50 miles) on Sunday 5/6 since the GF would be in church for a long time with her family.

Anyone around that area not gonna be in church and want to go for a ride?  I know it's two weeks away but I want to plan it out and get it out of the way.

Preferably something tri-bike friendly meaning no 10K feet of climbing like IMSG the day before.

Thanks!

There's a group from our tri-club that's been heading out around 10am on Sundays.  I know a lot of people will still be down in St George, but if I see something get posted on facebook I'll let you know.
As well, these rides have been up here in the Salt Lake Valley.

I knew someone was gonna say that...  I won't go to church with herTongue out.  I respect her and her beliefs but it's just not my thing.  That and majority of triathlons are held on Sundays.

10AM?  Anything earlier?  I would want to start around 7:30-8 am and get a good quality 50-60 mile bike ride in depending on the elevation.

I also wouldn't mind driving 30 minutes for a good ride!

I REALLY need to get a good ride in soon (Boise is creeping up FAST!! and my original plan was to do a century on the 5th but a work Tri destroyed that )

Let me see what I can do to pull a ride together.  I'm thinking perhaps we could meet somewhere near point of the mtn (exit for 14400 South in Draper) and ride Wasatch Blvd north, then finish up with a nice climb up Suncrest.
I also wouldn't mind riding from Riverton through Lehi and head out and up past Timp Caves and over to Tibble Fork (it's a gradual climb).  Could climb back of Suncrest on the way back.

I need to talk to the husband tonight to make sure he'd be okay taking the boys to church (b/c they already skipped religious education last week and will miss this coming week, too.  can't have my little angels turn into spawn, lol!)

I'm down for meeting anywhere within a 30-minute drive time from American Fork.  I have no idea where those places are and I also would ride anywhere as long as I can be done before noon (church is 9-12 if I'm not wrong).

Wait, you mean to say you exercise on Sundays???  Hard exercise on Sundays is a complete no no!  Well at least with my lady.  During my races, she would research a church/temple in advance so she could slip in an hour of church time during the bike portion which I don't mind cause being a spectator in our sport is a long waiting game and it's great that she's even willing to show up on Sunday races.

Oh and the more the merrier!  Either way i would really love to bike around Utah.  I mean it's beautiful out there!

lol!
I'm not of the traditional religious sector around here (If I REALLY think I'm going to go to hell if I don't go to church for some reason or another, I have the option of going on Saturday, lol)  It's just difficult to do so on a regular basis b/c I'm the main vocalist (or only female) at 9:30am Mass.

I still haven't had a chance to confirm that I'm a definite... however, even if I can't make it, I know American Fork enough that I can always map a route on here for you well enough that you shouldn't get lost.

To meet.. Exit 288 off of I-15 is probably the best place.  It's only about 10 miles north of American Fork and is about 15 miles south of me, which is fine.  There's a park and Ride lot there on the west side of the interstate, or we can meet at a gas station a little further up on the East Side. (I just don't recall there being a lot of parking at that station).

I'll keep in touch    *Just got to warn you I'm not a SUPER fast rider... I'm comfortable riding flats at about 16/18 mph and sprint around 21/22*  So an early start may be warranted to get the mileage in.

Sometimes I ask myself what I got myself into being with a wonderful LDS woman... Oh well...  She's definitely worth it and I'm not gonna jump ship either if you know what I mean.

Worst case scenario is I would have to go with a ride that, if possible, you can route.  It would be great if you could ride with me though.  I'm a little bit faster than you but who cares.  I'd rather enjoy the sights and go a little bit slower anyways.

Thanks for your assistance on this and I really appreciate it!!!

Okay... I'm all set schedule wise to ride at 8am.
I'll get the route worked out later.  And will post on our tri club facebook page to see about any pick-ups.

How do you feel about a 4.5mi 2000ft climb to start it off?
Then a bunch of rollers to the zoo in Salt Lake and back.  Would end up a total of about 59 miles with rolling hills and some 6% climbs after the first 9.  (though I think I know an out to ease up one of the climbs).

As well it would change starting points to a grocery store off of Bangerter Hwy and I-15 (just one exit north of initial spot, but bathroom opportunities before ride).

I think I'm going to finalize and post this route either tomorrow night or Thursday.
