Subject: Coaching
I don't know if it's because I'm cheap or stubborn or both, but I'm doing my first full ironman and though I'm considering coaching I've been reluctant to do it. I have a plan, and am comfortable with my training, Im not interested in the structured portion of it; I just don't know anyone that has gone the distance. Other than reading articles and getting tips on the message board I think I'm missing a small piece. Are their coaches that work more as consultants. I would be interested in finding someone to bounce ideas off of over the next couple months.

Talk with Running2far here on BT. He is my coach and has an amazing knowledge base.

You can always bounce some ideas off me.  I am not a big fan of coaching although I have many friends in the area who are good coaches.  I think it really comes down to a personal preference.  I am DIYer and frankly I can't afford coaching.  Doing the planning and coaching myself makes me that more knowledgable about subjects and I don't think it has ever hindered my progress from my first Ironman back in 2006, to my first amateur Ironman win, to my first Pro Ironman Podium.  With that being said people who need structure and don't have the time need a coach.

Different styles, different plans, different techniques, different opinions - you'll get them.

I had a coach, who was more of a mentor that provided some training regiment based off of hours, along with some encouragement/support.  He was a great guy and is a friend of mine from Middleton who has raced Kona twice in his life.

If you want, I can hook you up.  I'm sure his pricing is per month, but is about average of what you'll see/hear being mentioned/quoted.
