What's the drive like from Green Bay.  I need to know when I should be leaving by.

The drive is preety much straight thru.  I 43 to Green Bay, 57 north to dykesville is four lans / 65 mph.  Dkyesville north to egg harbour is 55 mph with some four lane south of sturgron bay.  They are expanding this to all four lane but so far the construction hasn't constricted traffic.  The bypass around sturgeon bay is 45 mph with four stop lights but traffic should be fairly light.  The draw brige on the bypass is open on demand so there is a small possibility that you may get slowed down there

Sounds like you already have the road information you need, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I did this race last year, and it was really well run and a lot fun! Lots of nice little extras--bike safety check, nice shirts, great goody bag, awesome food after, etc. And the best part (for me) was that the short course is flat, flat, flat! Have fun!

I thought I'd add that I don't know the state of I-43 but I drive Sb to GB a couple of times a month so I can give you an update as to slowdowns as the date approaches, but at the time of the morn that you will probably be driving there really can't be a problem.

I live in Two Rivers and Drive up to Door County at least once a week for work. There is some construction south of Sturgeon Bay right now, but nothing too bad.

I'll be doing Door Country as well this year.

Well from Green Bay, I would plan likely about 1.5 hours....just to be safe.

Well it depends on which point in GB your starting from.  But 1.5 hr would give you some room for error.

Who all is doing the Door County Tri? Maybe we should pitch in and get a hotel room up in egg harbor? I think I can get a discount since my company is a member of the Door County Chamber.

hey everyone,
If you are going to book a room do it now. I know from personal experience that the rooms book up fast. This is my first triathlon and I am a little nervous. Does anyone have any hints or tips to give a first timer to make it easier?

Cool thanks for the tip.  I'll actually be leaving from De Pere, so I won't need to get a room up there.  I'm pretty excited about this race, should be fun as I haven't been up in Door County in ages.

Tips?  Relax and have fun.  Take it easy for first time as you don't want to get burnt out later on and then risk being turned off of the sport.

My other tip is always for swimming, make sure you can float on your back effortlessly so that you can take a break if needed.

I will be up in Door County likely sometime next week. I will make sure I head up to Egg Habor, and try out the cycling course. I'll make some notes and pass those along to everyone :D

Did you do the course last year Star? How was it?

No this is my first season of triing, but the DC tri course (at least the south half) is part of one of my weekly rides.  A beginners group ride on Wed night.

We meet at the farmers market parking lot in downtown Sturgeon Bay 5:30 PM. I won't be there tonight (second wed of the month) but I ride every other wed of the month.

The gfroup is a beginner group, we average about 17.5 mph for a 24 mile ride.  Usually 16 mph going out and 19 coming back.  Out along bayshore to monument point rd up the bluff to ledge road to carlsville road down the bluff and back to SB along bayshore.

Hey all - I did this race last year and will be up there for it again this year. If anyone has any questions about the race, let me know!

With all the BTers doing this race, I'd love to hook up at the after race party or the packet pickup!

Hey everyone,
I am curious from those of you who have gotten to ride the short course for bike if you have had any wind. What direction does it come from and could it be a problem if it is a breezy day?

Thanks!

Until August there is almost always a breeze in Door County, depending on time and temp it will be either on or offshore, meaning a cross wind since the course parallels rthe shore.  But, most of the short course is protected on both sides with a good tree line, with very few open areas.  Of course with the right weather system coming through it could get quite windy.

The long course is a slight;y different story because it goes south and the wind can funnel up or down sturgeon bay, plus some of it it on top of the bluff where it is less protected.

Hey
Thanks so much. I hope we have a nice calm day because I don't want to have to deal with the winds during my first race.

Thanks again!
