What are your guy's thoughts on the 2011 Kestrel Talon Tri? I would be upgrading from a Specialized Secteur Sport Triple. Main reason being fit, the bike was a "hand-me-down" and is much to stretched out for me, even without aerobars.

It's a great bike, but what about the fit?

I have a 2010 w/SRAM Force and I like it.  Bought mine at a LBS but a friend bought a bike from bikesdirect and had a good experience.

I believe that the Kestrel Talon is more of a road bike geometry.  So, think of it more as an aero road bike with TT bars.

So- overall, perhaps a more versatile bike.  But on the downside, it's not really optimal for TT position as your hips will be a little more closed.  (if I got that right)

The Talon is actually a pretty good cross between a road and TT frame. It can easily be adjusted either way. Sure it isn't as fast as a pure TT configuration, but it is quite a bit less than a comparable true TT bike.

I'm riding a 2011 Talon frame that I built with SRAM Force and love it. I'll probably get a full TT bike in 2 years, but the frame was free for me because my brother had an 03-04 frame that had a warranty issue. I'll keep my Talon in a road configuration at that point.

Thanks for the info. Sounds about perfect for me as I am going to be doing at least ten tri's this summer hopefully along with some fun road rides with family and friends. I have heard about the possibility of having a quick disconnect road bar. Is this do-able? and if any ideas on cost?

Thanks,

Jack

I would go for a road configuration and add clip on aero bars if that is closer to the setup you want. Shouldn't be that much different in price.
