My triathlon season is being cut short before it even begins with a hip injury. Not sure what the extent of the injury is just yet - strain? stress fracture? joint capsule? Ortho appt. is in 2 weeks. Regardless, my running is down to zero, but I can swim and bike.

One of my targeted races was an Olympic for which I see they have an Aqua-Bike option. So, what would you do? Aqua-bike, or sit out? (Assuming no restrictions besides running, or course.)

Personally if I couldn't run I would take the season to focus on cycling.  But swimming is my least favorite event, so I wouldn't miss it.  I'd find a century I wanted to do and skip the tri.

Do the Aquabike. I had a running injury before IMAZ which was in November. However, the 1/2 ironman I signed up for in September offered an Aquabike also.

I am always BOP BUT in the Aquabike there were only 3 people in my age group and I managed to place first. Never would have placed otherwise and it was really fun finishing before my friends that did the 1/2 ironman so I could see them finish for a change.

I enjoyed the race and then was healthy enough to complete IMAZ.

Aquabikes are great for training and not as hard on your body. Enjoy!!!!

Aqua bike for sure.  In fact, enter a bunch of them this summer as long as your running is down.

It will keep you motivated and allow you to make gains elsewhere in the meantime.

Thanks, folks! Hopefully I'll be able to run some this summer and shoot for a HIM in September. If not, and based on this, aqua-bike it is.

Aquabike for sure!

Last year I participated in 5 multisport events and I did relays or aquabikes in all of them so no running other than IMFL which I walked with short bits of running.

You could also do a relay with a friend or two.

I had major knee surgery and have signed up for some aquabikes this year. I haven't run since May 7th last year.  I may be allowed to run 6 months post op but not sure.

I should point out that this was NOT an intentional injury. 8^)
