Veteran 140![]() ![]() Longmont, Colorado | Subject: Help Please -- Possible RelocationHi all - I'm considering a potential relocation and am looking at a job in the area around Portsmouth. I'd like to keep my commute to 45min or less and have 3 little ones so community will be important for us. Additionally we've gotten used to good resturants/healthy lifestyle options (currently just outside of Boulder CO) and looking on the net is hard to tell the feeling and culture of the area. Any good recommendations or things to avoid that you'd care to share? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks, Cam. |

Member 24 Concord, NH | Subject: RE: Help Please -- Possible RelocationIn my mind, if you enjoy all of those things, then Portsmouth is probably near the top of the list. My wife and I live in Concord, NH currently (about 45 mins away) and are in the process of buying a home in the Seacoast area (as everyone around here calls it). Downtown Portsmouth is about as picturesque as a New England town can get. You have access to great restaurants in the city itself, great shopping at local malls and across the border in Maine, you also have access to tons of biking and running paths on the Seacoast as well as hiking at state parks that are both local and good day trip. There is also Lake Winnipesaukee, which is amazing in the summer and home to the Timberman HIM and Newfound Lake, home of the Mooseman HIM. Not sure what age your little ones are, but there are some of the top schools in NE in North Hampton, NH, which is where we are currently looking. We were told to avoid Seabrook (sorry if any BT-ers live there!) for what it is worth and we prefer not to live in Massachusetts, but that is an option since you would be "reverse commuting" (the heavier traffic heads towards Boston). Is the job right in Portsmouth? I've lived in NH for 5 years since moving from Buffalo, NY and love every day of it. Let me know if you have any other specific questions! We are house browsing as I write this, so happy to give any tips that would be helpful! |

There are great restaurants and brew pubs in the area. What kind of advice were you looking for? |

Regular 172![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Help Please -- Possible RelocationPortsmouth or Dover have good restaurants and healthy stuff and are nice towns with lots of family-friendly options. They are also relatively expensive. Hampton is a madhouse in the summer, Seabrook doesn't have the good restaurants and healthy options (I actually work there and while I love my job and there are some absolutely wonderful people there, but it sounds like a bad fit for you). I personally have always wanted to live in Rollinsford--nice relatively small town with an art community and within reasonable driving distance. I'm not terribly familiar with Greenland, but it's about as close to Portsmouth as you can get without actually being in it--worth checking into. Good luck! |

NH | Subject: RE: Help Please -- Possible RelocationPortsmouth is a great town and it's easy to get to Boston or up to Maine to get all the New England experiences. The interesting thing about New Englanders is that we tend to stay put or come back if we leave, so this area must have something going for it! I'll ask what Jonathan asked - what advice exactly are you looking for? |

Extreme Veteran 819![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dirty Dover | Subject: RE: Help Please -- Possible RelocationHey Cam! I have been in living in Dover for almost 2 years now, and in the area for three. I had previously lived in Boston and Philly and LOVE it here! Admittedly, I wouldn't have moved here if jgerbodegrant (who posted above) hadn't asked me to move in with him, but I have loved it since I made the move. As for the area, Portsmouth has great restaurants and a great social scene for athletes of all kinds. There are tons of groups who tri, hike, kayak, and more. People are pretty friendly and welcoming and UNH is nearby so there is added cultural and academic value to the area. We also live in a great neighborhood in Dover with lots of 'outside' kids. We don't have any yet, but of our friends who do, there are great activities to involved them in. I'm happy to recommend our real estate agent if you haven't found one yet. She's a top seller in the Seacoast area and is very knowledgeable. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!

Member 37![]() Newmarket, NH | Subject: RE: Help Please -- Possible RelocationAll good points above, and you should also consider Exeter. Great schools, nice little downtown with good food options (mostly lunch), and only 20 mins or so to downtown Portsmouth. If you do end up in the area, check out the Vento Tri Club.
