So here is my question... I frequently end up working out after a 14 hour work day, get home change go for a run and then weights in the basement. After a 1 to 1 1/2 hour workout I have always read that you need to eat for proper recovery, but if I am then going to  bed right after? I don't eat a big meal, many times  toast and peanut butter. So what is a good recovery meal and is it better to eat or not eat?

Great job everyone Keep up the good work!

Depending on the intensity of the weights, and the quantity of PB, my first impression from what you posted is that you could definitely go heavier on lean protein for a post-weight-lifting meal.

You're right, I just have a hard time finding that in a short time frame? maybe need to get some kind of recovery drink for ease?

I try not to eat atleast 2 hours before I go to bed, your body does not seem to digest the food the same way while you are sleeping. Is there anyway you can do your workout before work? If not, I would suggest maybe some simple things to eat post workout- Can of tuna, protein shake, greek yogurt with fruit mixed in, veggies and hummus. If you are going to eat before you go to bed, try and make it nutritious and low caloric as that will be your best bet.

Thanks for the advice! When I work days I am up at 5 to be out of the house by 6, I really can't get up at 3 to get my work out in, I know no dedication .  But i will try some of the items you listed, I like all of them!

You should stay away from bread. It will kick in your insulin, and you will be producing fat at night instead of burning it.

Since you don't workout in the morning, I don't see a need to eat. You have all day before your next workout to replenish the system. If your goal is to loose weight, and you can tough it out, wait til the next day, break feast will be more important and tastier.

Thanks Great advice!

5/1/12 - 227lbs6/1/11 - 217lbsThis was my first month of tri'ing and my goal was to be able to run a mile. Unfortunately I didn't meet that goal as I still need to take a couple breaks in between to catch my breath but I went from only being able to run for a Minute straight to 5 minutes straight. I know that's not much, but running is my weakness and I allowed myself to get distracted a few times in the month and only ran twice a week.At least I now have a time/distance to improve upon for next month... And 10lbs of weightloss aint to shabby either.
