Subject: Info on Cardinal Half?
Looking around for a race to prep IMKY... I came a across Cardinal Half on trifind. I went to their website and found that all the info is still from last year, and half of the links don't work. I researched a little more on active.com and found this years date: July 14th. Do any of you have any recent inside info on this race? I read some reviews and some info on a few threads here, but they are almost 2 years old...Any input would be greatly appreciated! Alex Ps: Please excuse the format, my iPhone doesn't seem to get along with BT's text input...

I've done the race twice.  In 2009 I crashed and broke both of my wrists, and in 2010 I won.

It's a fun race, as long as you go in with a relaxed attitude: field is fairly small, stuff may not be exactly on time, turns may not be perfectly marked, post-race awards will be low-key, porta-potties/aid-stations will be sparser on the run, honor system is only thing guaranteeing a fair course, etc.

If you expect an IM-like production, you will be disappointed.  If you like feeling like you're doing a race just with friends and having a cookout/potluck aftwards, then you'll love it.

Personally, I wish more races were like this one -- it reminds me of how all races were 20 years ago.

Email the RD (or look them up on FB).  It sold out in 2010, but I think that was unusual.

ya low key race. Cost is only $100ish so not bad. Even though small field(limit at 300) there is some competition for sure. Great race in prep for IM to see where fitness is. You swim in the ohio, bike on alot of the IM course(you do the Out-back but big difference is you don't hit the entire lagrange loop) and you make your way back to the finish when finishing the La Grange loop as you do in the IM so visually you see the last 25ish miles that you will see in the IM. The run is rolling hills(IM is flat) and its hot. Be prepared ot carry some extra water and own nutrtion, that stuff is scarce on the bike. I did one of their half iron distance races back in may in pouring down rain and was well organzied. Fun race, I am doing this year.
