So didja eat enough gnats to last you the rest of your life? Great day - I could not imagine racing that with the sun beating down on that run course.

Glad you posted this - I wondered why there was no thread to be found before the race.

Bug zapper in transition next year, for sure.

And I know I looked like a tool with my vibrams on for the swim, but the bottom of that pond, and the long run to T1 made it worth it.

Since this was my first organized race longer than a sprint (my only oly was homemade), I have to say, I felt way more intimidated and out of place this time around. At sprints I saw many others of my body shape/size. But once you get up close to the HIM distance, there are fewer of us around. Even with my recent weight loss, I was easily the largest person there by at least 30 pounds.

With a bike wheel fail dnf, I'm heading back next year no doubt. I need to earn that most boring race shirt ever. Well run event, but seriously - most boring race shirt possible.

Definitely they win the award for most boring shirt - to match the bike and run portion of the race. Water was too gross to even see.  Claaw, you will get revenge on that course next year! Bring the zapper and your VFF's and get out there and git'er done.

That field did seem exceptionally fit but remember, triathletes come in all shapes and sizes! You worked hard to get there just like everyone else.

I have done some Piranha sports events and feel that all of the race shirts are boring and for the amount of money you pay for a race entry, I expect better from them. They do put on a well organized and good race but the swag (quality) is lacking. Heard many stories about the bugs at this event, so sorry you guys had to deal with it.

I will give them this - for boring shirts, they do provide free photos, which is nice. And they certainly know how to put on a race, no doubt about that at all.

You may still have ended up with a mouthful of bugs, even miles from the start.

I do plan to return in 2013, but there is a major IF involved. There was a local 1/2 marathon I missed that day, that I would have run had I not already signed up for Devilman months ago. Some old friends and neighbors put together a team to honor a recently deceased neighbor, who was father of my sister's best friend, and an all around good guy. If they are the same day again next year, I will have to opt for the local race. As a total aside, I wrote a tribute to him when he died, on my blog. It's titled Requiem for a Runner.
